Former University of Minnesota Football Player Found Dead In Dorm Room

Former University of Minnesota linebacker Gary Tinsley was found dead in his dorm room on Friday morning, the Pioneer Press reports.

Because the death involved a "young athlete", authorities are treating it as a suspicious death.

"There was no immediate indication of crime, things you would expect with weapons or a struggle," University Police Chief Greg Hestness said . "All of those things are absent. Nevertheless, a death of a young athlete is out of the ordinary, so we only get one opportunity to handle the crime scene properly. So we're treating it as a suspicious death."

Tinsley tallied 198 tackles, 6.5 sacks and one interceptions during his four-year career with the Gophers. Tinsley had hoped to play in the National Football League next season, saying after his pro day workout that it was ""something I always wanted to do. It's like I'm living out a dream. This is part of the dream. There's a lot more to come."

My deepest condolences to Tinsley's family, friends and loved ones.
