The New England Patriots have signed free agent safety Steve Gregory to a three-year contract, Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston reports.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Signed by the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted free agent out of Syracuse in 2006, the 5-foot-11, 190-pound Gregory has 241 tackles, two sacks and four interceptions in 85 games over the last six seasons, starting 31 games at strong safety and playing in nickel and dime packages.
Gregory is a natural free safety, which is where he'll likely play for the Patriots, who have ranked 30th and 31st in pass defense the last two seasons.
