The New York Jets have signed nose tackle Sione Pouha to a three-year contract extension, Jenny Vrentas of The Star-Ledger reports.
Terms were not immediately disclosed, but retaining the 33-year-old nose tackle was the team's highest priority.
A third-round pick (88th overall) out of Utah by the Jets in 2005, the 6-foot-3, 325-pound Pouha appeared in 14 games as a rookie before missing the 2006 season with a knee injury. A full-time starter the last three seasons, Pouha has 162 tackles, three quarterback sacks and tackled Kansas City Chiefs running back Jackie Battle for a safety in a Week 14 win.
Signed to a three-year, $6.8 million extension in 2008, Pouha earned just $1.28 million in base salary last season. Previously represented by San Francisco-based Kenneth Vierra, Pouha changed agents during the 2011 season, hiring Brian Mackler and Jim Ivler of SPORTSTARS, Inc., who are based in New York City.
