San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith has joined a search for Sierra LaMar, a teenager from Morgan Hill who has been missing since March 16, the Contra Costa Times reports.
"Alex Smith was one of the volunteers today," said Marc Klaas, founder of the KlaasKids Foundation. "He went out with a group on a search for Sierra."
Anyone with information on LaMar's disappearance are encouraged to call (408) 808-4500 or the anonymous tip line at (408) 808-4431. Tips can also be emailed to tips@sheriff.sccgov.org.
The No. 1 overall pick of the 2005 NFL Draft, Smith solidified his role as the team's starting quarterback in 2011. Playing under a one-year contract, Smith completed 61.3 percent of 445 pass attempts for 3,144 yards with 17 touchdowns and just five interceptions in leading the 49ers to their first NFC West title and playoff appearance since 2002.
A free agent this off-season, Smith returned to the 49ers on a three-year, $24 million contract on March 21.
