San Francisco 49ers rookie linebacker Aldon Smith was arrested and charged with driving under the influence in Miami Beach, Florida on Friday night, KTVU in San Francisco reports.
According to reports, the 22-year-old was booked into jail at 9:32am ET and bond was listed at $1,000.
Selected out of the University of Missouri with the seventh overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft, Smith had 37 tackles in 16 games as a rookie, including a rookie franchise-record 14 quarterback sacks. Smith was named the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Month in both October and December/January.
As the seventh overall pick, Smith signed a fully guaranteed four-year contract worth $14.384 million. Included in that contract was an $8.961 million signing bonus that brought his year one earnings to $9.336 million dollars.
