As expected, the San Francisco 49ers have promoted wide receiver Joe Hastings from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.

Browns QB Seneca Wallace Wants To Prove He's A Starter
Cleveland Browns quarterback Seneca Wallace has spent much of his nine seasons in the NFL as a backup quarterback. First to Matt Hasselbeck with the Seattle Seahawks from 2003-09 and then Jake Delhomme and Colt McCoy with the Cleveland Browns the last two seasons.
With McCoy shut down for the season due to a concussion, Wallace is out to show that he's capable of being a starting quarterback in the National Football League, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer reports.
"At the end of the day, I can control what I can control," he said. "Yeah, I get frustrated that, hey, I feel like I deserve a shot or I want a shot. But at the end of the day, it's just a matter of making sure I lead my teammates in the right direction. The rest will take care of itself."
Wallace, 31, started 14 games during his seven seasons with the Seahawks, with most of those coming during the 2008 season. Wallace has started six games over his two seasons with the Browns. In the last two games, Wallace has completed 37-of-64 pass attempts for 373 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in a pair of road losses to the Arizona Cardinals and Baltimore Ravens.

Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch Fined $10,000 For Second Uniform Violation
Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch has been fined $10,000 for a second violation of the the NFL's uniform policy, a league spokesman confirmed on Friday.
Specifically, Lynch's cleats were adorned with a Skittles pattern for last Saturday's 19-17 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Earlier this month, Lynch was fined $5,000 for wearing lime-green socks in a Monday Night Football game win over the St. Louis Rams.
Before taxes, Lynch's $2.14 million base salary in 2011 is comprised of weekly game checks worth $125,882 apiece. Barring a contract extension or being designated with the franchise tag by the Seahawks, the 25-year-old Lynch will be an unrestricted free agent in March.
Lynch ranks seventh in the NFL with 1,118 yards and is tied for third with 12 rushing touchdowns this season.
In addition to Lynch's uniform violation, Seahawks fifth-round cornerback Richard Sherman was fined $15,000 for his horse collar tackle on 49ers running back Frank Gore. As part of his four-year, $2.222 million rookie contract, Sherman is earning $375,000 in base salary this season, which is comprised of 17 game checks worth $22,059.
Seahawks fullback Michael Robinson was not fined after he was flagged for a fourth quarter unnecessary roughness penalty, but linebacker Adrian Moten was fined $7,500 for his hit on that same play. Robinson and Moten unnecessarily hit 49ers kick returner Kyle Williams, who had slipped and was deemed to have given himself up on the play. Williams sustained a concussion on the hit and is unlikely to play in the regular season finale against the St. Louis Rams on Sunday. Like Sherman, Moten is earning $22,059 per week as part of his $375,000 base salary.

Jaguars Avoid Blackout
The Jacksonville Jaguars announced that they have sold enough tickets for Sunday's regular season finale against the Indianapolis Colts to avoid a local television blackout.
For the Jaguars, it will be their 17th consecutive sellout, an impressive streak for a franchise that is frequently listed as a relocation candidate.
The Jaguars are planning to honor outgoing owners Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver at halftime.

Panthers Place WR Legedu Naanee On Injured Reserve
The Carolina Panthers will place wide receiver Legedu Naanee on injured reserve with a foot injury.
Practice squad defensive tackle DeMario Pressley will replace Naanee on the 53-man roster.
Signed to a one-year, $735,000 contract on August 5, Naanee started 10 of 15 games for the Panthers this season, catching 44 passes for 467 yards and one touchdown. A 2007 fifth-round pick out of Boise State by the San Diego Chargers, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound Naanee has 107 receptions for 1,213 yards and four touchdowns during his 69-game career.
Naanee will be an unrestricted free agent in March.

Rams Buy Up Tickets To Avoid Blackout
The St. Louis Rams have purchased the remaining unsold tickets for Sunday's regular season finale against the San Francisco 49ers.
"While this game was a challenge to find a way to get on television, we thought it was important to our fans to make sure that those who can't get to the stadium on Sunday would be able to watch the Rams in our final game of the year," Rams CEO Kevin Demoff said on Friday.
The 2-13 Rams are in contention for the No. 1 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft and will finish in last place in the NFC West for the fourth time in the last five seasons, but will avoid having any of their games blacked out on local television.

Texans DE J.J. Watt To Appeal Fine
Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt plans to appeal his fine he received for a roughing the passer penalty in last Thursday night's loss to the Indianapolis Colts, Dale Robertson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Watt was flagged for two roughing the passer penalties, neither of which appeared to be warranted. In the second quarter, Watt cleanly sacked Colts quarterback Dan Orlovsky, but referee Jerome Boger, who was behind the play, threw a flag citing helmet-to-helmet contact. Orlovsky had ducked his head, which resulted in slight contact between Watt's helmet and the edge of Orlovsky's face mask.
The play Watt was fined for occurred with 40 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. Watt appeared to have been pushed from behind, sending him low into the back of Orlovsky's legs after an incomplete first-down pass. In the NFL Network replay, Boger is spotted looking through the bodies to see the result of the play before throwing the flag.
Selected with the 11th overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft, Watt signed a four-year contract that is worth a fully guaranteed $11.238 million and included a $6.673 million signing bonus and $375,000 base salary in 2011. In 15 starts, Watt has 55 tackles and 5.5 quarterback sacks.
Robertson adds that the fine amount is believed to be $10,000, but a first offense fine for roughing the passer involves a $15,000 fine. Either way, it's a significant chunk of Watt's weekly $22,059 game checks.

Jets OC Brian Schottenheimer Keeping Calm
As his team clings to its hopes of entering the AFC Playoffs, which will be necessary to back up the preseason guarantees made by his boss, New York Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer is keeping calm ahead of Sunday's must-win finale against the Miami Dolphins, The Star-Ledger reports.
"I am not worried about that at all," Schottenheimer said of his job security. "I want to play well, we need to play well, because there is certainly a chance for us to still make the playoffs...But again, I don’t worry about that."
The Jets defense ranks 7th in total defense, 15th against the run, 5th against the pass, and are 2nd in the NFL on third down. Yet, the Jets find themselves in need of a win and some help to make the playoffs. A lot of the reason for that falls on Schottenheimer's offense, which is 27th in total offense, 30th in rushing yards per play and 22nd on third down.
Schottenheimer received a two-year extension this season, but as the son of an NFL coach, understands the pitfalls that come with the job.
"I’ve been fired before," Schottenheimer said. "If you get in this profession, you’re going to get fired. And the guys that sit there and worry about it are the guys that generally end up getting fired, because they are sitting there worried about it."

Jaguars Claim OT Will Robinson Off Waivers
The Jacksonville Jaguars have claimed offensive tackle Will Robinson off waivers from the New Orleans Saints, a league source confirmed on Thursday.
Originally signed by the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent out of San Diego State in 2008, Robinson spent his rookie season on injured reserve before spending most of the 2009 and 2010 seasons on the Washington Redskins practice squad, appearing in his one NFL regular season game in 2009.
Robinson was signed off the Redskins' practice squad by the Seahawks last November, but did not appear in a game and was waived by Seattle in September. Robinson had been on the Saints' practice squad since the start of the season and was activated in Week 11, but did not appear in a game before he was waived on Wednesday when the Saints re-signed tight end Tory Humphrey.
Robinson is signed through the end of this season, but is not eligible for unrestricted free agency in the offseason.
To make room for Robinson, the Jaguars waived cornerback Robert McClain.

Lions WR Calvin Johnson Misses Second Day Of Practice
Detroit Lions Pro Bowl wide receiver Calvin Johnson missed a second consecutive day of practice with an injured Achilles tendon, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Johnson hopes to be able to play in Sunday's regular season finale against the Green Bay Packers.
"I had some things bothering me at the end of the game there so just trying to be as fresh as possible going into the game," Johnson said on Wednesday.
Johnson is headed back to the Pro Bowl after catching 85 passes for 1,437 yards and 15 touchdowns. Johnson is second behind New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker in receiving yardage and is tied with Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski for the NFL lead in receiving touchdowns.

Patriots QB Tom Brady To Miss Practice With Left Shoulder Injury
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will miss today's practice with an injury to his non-throwing shoulder, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
The Patriots listed Brady as "Did Not Participate" on Wednesday's injury report, but cited "Not-Injury Related" as the reason.
Brady is expected to start against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. The Patriots have already clinched the AFC East and a first-round bye, but can secure home-field advantage throughout the playoffs with a win or tie against the Bills.

Concussion Likely To Keep Kevin Kolb Out Of Finale
Concussion symptoms will likely keep Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb out of the 2011 regular season finale, Kent Somers of The Arizona Republic reports.
Kolb sustained a concussion early in a December 11 win over the San Francisco 49ers, keeping him out of the last two games. With the Cardinals eliminated from the post-season, there's little incentive to rush Kolb back from a head injury.
The concussion symptoms are "nothing serious, but it's something I can't play with," Kolb said.
Acquired in exchange for cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a 2012 second-round pick, Kolb signed a five-year, $63 million contract extension. In nine games, Kolb completed 146-of-253 pass attempts for 1,955 yards with nine touchdowns and eight interceptions.
2010 fifth-round pick John Skelton has filled in for Kolb, passing for 1,642 yards with 10 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. With Skelton under center, the Cardinals stopped a lengthy losing streak and clawed back into contention in the NFC Playoffs as Skelton often balanced out his poor starts by stepping up his game in the fourth quarter and overtime.
Kolb will earn $8.5 million in total compensation and has a $10.5 million cap number, while Skelton will earn the league minimum base salary of $540,000.

Chargers C Nick Hardwick Contemplating Retirement
San Diego Chargers center Nick Hardwick is contemplating retirement, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
"I love football," Hardwick said on Wendnesday. "It’s a hard decision. There is a lot that goes into it. It’s heavy. So I’m not willing to think about it right now."
A third-round pick out of Purdue in 2004, Hardwick has started 102 games over the last eight seasons, earning one trip to the Pro Bowl (2006) and missed most of one season (2009) with a broken foot. Hardwick, 30, became a father during this season and will be a free agent in the offseason.
"We’ll weigh the options, see where we’re at, see how I feel when we’re done," said Hardwick. "We’ve got time to make decisions and figure it out."

Colts Claim Quan Cosby Off Waivers
According to a league source, the Indianapolis Colts have claimed wide receiver Quan Cosby off waivers from the Denver Broncos.
Originally signed by the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent out of Texas, Cosby caught six passes for 71 yards and averaged 9.9 yards on 70 punt returns in 32 games over the 2009 and 2010 seasons before he was waived at the start of the 2011 season. After workouts with the Houston Texans and Broncos, Cosby signed with Denver in Week 3 and averaged 26.9 yards on 17 kick returns and 10.0 yards on 27 punt returns in 10 games.
Cosby is signed through the 2012 season.
To make room for Cosby, the Colts placed linebacker Philip Wheeler on injured reserve with a foot injury that has kept him out of the last two games. The fourth-year linebacker out of Georgia Tech had 84 tackles and a quarterback sack in 13 games, including 11 starts this season.
In 61 games for the Colts over the last four seasons, Wheeler has 220 tackles and two quarterback sacks and he'll be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason.
