Rams WR Austin Pettis Suspended Four Games

St. Louis Rams wide receiver Austin Pettis has been suspended four games for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs, Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

"Austin’s situation is unfortunate," said Steve Spagnuolo said in a statement released by the club "Obviously, we are disappointed and will miss him during this suspension. But the NFL's policies are very clear and we respect the League's decision in this matter. We are unable to comment further on this matter or any aspect of the NFL’s Drug Policy."

A 2011 third-round pick out of Boise State, Pettis was inactive the first two weeks of the season, but has 27 receptions for 256 yards in the 12 games since. Pettis is also averaged 9.3 yards on 15 punt returns and 20.7 yards on three kick returns.

With two games remaining in the 2011 regular season, Pettis' suspension will carry over to the first two games of the 2012 season. Overall, the four-game suspension will cost Pettis $101,765 in base salary.
