Cowboys Place P Mat McBriar On Injured Reserve

The Dallas Cowboys announced that punter Mat McBriar has been placed on injured reserve with a left foot injury.

McBriar finishes 2011 with a net average of 36.1 yards on 58 punts, a five-yard decline over his Pro Bowl season of 2010.

Punter Chris Jones has been promoted from the practice squad to replace McBriar, who struggled since injuring his plant leg on October 30 against the Philadelphia Eagles. Jones punted for McBriar the following week against the Seattle Seahawks, averaging 43 yards on four punts with two punts placed inside the 20-yard line.

The Cowboys also promoted quarterback Chris Greisen from the practice squad to serve as the No. 3 quarterback behind starter Tony Romo and top backup Stephen McGee. Veteran guard Daniel Loper was released to add Greisen to the 53-man roster.
