San Diego Chargers linebacker Antwan Barnes has been named the AFC's Defensive Player of the Week, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Playing against the Baltimore Ravens, Barnes' former team, Barnes had four quarterback sacks in the 34-14 win on Sunday night. Barnes had five quarterback sacks in 38 games with the Ravens from 2007-09.
In 14 games, including four starts, this season, Barnes has 11 quarterback sacks. Since joining the Chargers, the 6-foot-1, 251-pound outside linebacker has 15.5 quarterback sacks in 25 games.
The Chargers re-signed Barnes to a two-year, $3.2 million contract in July, which is turning out to be one of the better bargains in the National Football League. That deal included a $1 million base salary in 2011 and $1.6 million base salary in 2012, after which he will be a free agent.
