The Buffalo Bills have announced the signing of kicker Brandon Coutu.
A 2008 seventh-round pick out of the University of Georgia by the Seattle Seahawks, Coutu went 7-for-7 on field goal attempts during his first preseason, but spent the season on the team's gameday inactive list as veteran Olindo Mare handled the kicking duties. Coutu lost the kicking battle to the Mare the following preseason and was released.
Out of football in 2010, Coutu returned to the Seahawks last July, but was released midway through training camp as Steven Hauschka emerged as the team's top kicker. Coutu had workouts with the Bills (11/8), Miami Dolphins (11/18) and on December 14 with the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he spent a week on the practice squad.
To make room for Coutu, kicker Dave Rayner has been placed on injured reserve. Rayner had replaced Rian Lindell, who was placed on injured reserve with a shoulder injury.
