The New York Giants announced that they have placed left tackle Will Beatty on season-ending injured reserve.
Beatty underwent surgery this week to repair a detached retina that was expected to keep him out for at least the next month. After starting just six of 24 games his first two seasons in the league, the 2009 second-round pick out of UCONN had replaced David Diehl as the starting left tackle this season.
With Beatty out, Diehl is moving back to left tackle.
Replacing Beatty on the 53-man roster is veteran linebacker Chase Blackburn, who recorded 210 tackles, 1.5 quarterback sacks and two interceptions in 93 games for the Giants from 2005-10.
The Giants also signed wide receiver/return specialist Isaiah Stanback to the practice squad, releasing quarterback Ryan Perrilloux to make room. Stanback had worked out for the Giants on October 17.
