The Dallas Cowboys have added practice squad punter Chris Jones to their 53-man roster, Calvin Watkins of ESPN Dallas reports.
Jones' signing is insurance for Mat McBriar, who has a case of drop foot in his left foot and was listed as "Questionable" on the team's injury report.
An undrafted rookie free agent from Carson-Newman, Jones had a net average of 33.1 yards on eight punts for the Cowboys during the preseason. The left-footed Jones was released at the end of training camp and had a tryout with the Minnesota Vikings in late September.
The Vikings were preparing to face the Kansas City Chiefs, whose punter, Dustin Colquitt, is left-footed.
To make room for Jones, backup offensive lineman Daniel Loper has been waived.
