The Oakland Raiders have signed veteran cornerback Lito Sheppard, the team announced on Monday.
A 2002 first round pick (26th overall) out of Florida by the Philadelphia Eagles, Sheppard has 302 tackles and 19 interceptions during his nine-year career, which has included two appearances in the Pro Bowl (2004, 2006).
Sheppard was traded to the New York Jets in 2009 and spent 2010 with the Minnesota Vikings. The Raiders had signed Sheppard in late August, with the veteran making three tackles in the preseason finale against the Seattle Seahawks before he was released as part of the team's final roster cuts.
According to a league source, Sheppard worked out for the Cincinnati Bengals on September 13 and paid a visit to the Raiders on October 18.
The Raiders had an open spot on their roster following last week's release of kicker Dave Rayner.
