Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis Knows Catches Come In Bunches

In the first three weeks of his five-year, $34 million contract extension, Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis has just four receptions for 43 yards.

Despite the lack of production, the 2010 Pro Bowler recognizes that, as a team leader, he cannot sulk in the locker room, Vito Stellino of the Florida Times-Union reports.

"In my heart, I hate to lose more than I love to win," Lewis said. "For me being a leader, they can't see me with my head down and I don't have a smile on my face. I feel it's my job to always be upbeat because it could be a lot worse. We have good chemistry here with good coaches who care about the players. That keeps us going."

Lewis, who had 10 receptions for 116 yards and two touchdowns last September, knows that his production could jump on any given Sunday.

"You know what kind of heart I've got. I'm not selfish. They (catches) come in bunches. I could have seven catches Sunday with two touchdowns," said Lewis.

The Jaguars host the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. In last week's win over the Houston Texans, the Saints allowed tight ends Owen Daniels and James Casey to catch 10 passes for 202 yards and two touchdowns.
