New Orleans Saints defensive end Will Smith released a statement through the team's public relations department on Tuesday night regarding his domestic battery arrest early Saturday morning in Lafayette, Louisiana.
"During the past weekend, my wife Racquel and I were visiting her family in Lafayette, Louisiana for the holiday weekend. Early Saturday morning, an unfortunate misunderstanding led to my arrest.
"My wife was not injured as reported and this was not a domestic issue. I am confident that the legal process will bear this out. Both Racquel and I look forward to having the legal process play out and will cooperate fully. Until then, and based upon legal counsel, I will not be able to make any further comment on this matter.
"Racquel and I are both extremely thankful to everyone that has offered support through this trying time."

The Indianapolis Colts announced that linebacker Cody Glenn has been placed on injured reserve.
A fifth-round pick out of Nebraska by the Washington Redskins, Glenn (6-0, 240) was claimed off waivers last September. Waived and re-signed to the practice squad the following week, Glenn was activated midway through last season, totaling 9 tackles in 9 games, including five special teams tackles.
In 10 games this season, Glenn has a team-high 14 special teams tackles.

Dolphins Activate DE Phillip Merling
The Miami Dolphins have activated defensive end Phillip Merling from the "Reserve/Non-Football Injury" list, Jeff Darlington of the Miami Herald reports.
Quarterback Patrick Ramsey has been waived to add Merling to the 53-man roster.
After a rocky off-season, which included an arrest for domestic battery in May, Merling ruptured his Achilles' tendon during a non-football workout on July 22.
Battery charges against Merling were dropped earlier this month.
The 32nd overall pick (2nd round) of the 2007 NFL Draft out of Clemson, Merling has started four of 32 games for the Dolphins over the last two seasons, and had been projected to be a starter on Miami's three-man front.
The 6-4, 295-pound Merling has been credited with 59 tackles and 3.5 quarterback sacks during his career, and added a 25-yard interception return for a touchdown during his rookie campaign.

Seahawks LB David Hawthorne Signs One-Year Extension
According to a league source, the Seattle Seahawks have signed linebacker David Hawthorne to a one-year contract extension.
Hawthorne's extension, which was signed on November 27, is worth $1.38 million and included a $350,000 signing bonus along with an increase of his $470,000 base salary as an exclusive rights free agent to $696,667 for the final six weeks of the regular season.
Overall, Hawthorne will earn $550,000 in base salary this season to go along with a $50,000 signing bonus and $50,000 in roster bonuses he received when signing his one-year ERFA tender on July 31.
In 2011, Hawthorne has a $900,000 base salary and $50,000 in per game roster bonuses. ($3,125 per game)
After posting 12 special teams tackles as a rookie free agent out of TCU in 2008, Hawthorne started 11 games at middle linebacker for an injured Lofa Tatupu during the 2009 season. Hawthorne led the Seahawks in tackles (117) last season, adding 4 quarterback sacks and tying for the team lead with three interceptions.
Hawthorne has replaced the injured Leroy Hill as the starting weak-side linebacker this season, and currently has a team-high 66 tackles. Over the last four games, Hawthorne has 39 tackles and an interception.
With three accrued seasons, Hawthorne would likely be ineligible for unrestricted free agency during the 2011 off-season. Under the collective bargaining agreement, which is set to expire on March 3, a one-year restricted free agent tender for Hawthorne would be worth between $1.2 million (right of first refusal) and $3.317 million (1st and 3rd round draft choice compensation).

Safety Ken Hamlin has been placed on waivers.
The Ravens are scrambling for a fullback after Le'Ron McClain injured his ankle during Sunday's 17-10 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Ravens will need to make a corresponding transaction to officially sign McKie, but no announcement has been made at this time.
McKie (5-11, 247) entered the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles, who signed him as an undrafted free agent out of Temple. McKie split his rookie season between the Eagles and Dallas Cowboys practice squads, appearing in one game for Dallas in 2002.
Claimed off waivers by the Bears in 2003, McKie appeared in 87 games between 2003 and 2009, running for 84 yards and 3 touchdowns, with 68 receptions for 364 yards and another 3 touchdowns as a receiver.
McKie signed with New Orleans in May and released before the starting of training camp. Re-signed during the pre-season, McKie was part of the Saints' final roster cuts in early September.

Bengals Sign K Clint Stitser
The Cincinnati Bengals have signed free agent kicker Clint Stitser, Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Rookie kicker Aaron Pettrey has been waived after converting two of his four field goal opportunities during his two-game stint with the team.
Stitser went undrafted out of Fresno State in 2009, and spent part of the 2010 off-season with the New York Jets. After missing all three of his field goal attempts during a May 27 OTA session the Jets cut him.
Signed by the Seattle Seahawks midway through the 2010 training camp, Stitser connected on his one field goal attempt (35 yards) and was 3-for-3 on extra points before he was waived on August 30.
Cincinnati also added linebacker Tim Knicky and fullback James Develin to the practice squad, with fullback Joe Tronzo having his p-squad contract terminated.

NFL to Issue Refunds For Games Canceled by 2011 Work Stoppage
The NFL will announce later today its plan to offer full refunds for any games canceled during a work stoppage in the 2011 regular season, Michael McCarthy of USA Today reports.
McCarthy adds that the refund policy will not extend to personal seat licenses (PSLs).
"We are working hard to secure an agreement with the union that is fair and forward-thinking to ensure our game is sound and strong well into the future," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said. "We know we will reach an agreement at some point. We all want football without interruption, but our fans are entitled to know now that they would receive refunds if any games are canceled."

The NFL Playoff Debate
As of this morning, the St. Louis Rams hold a half-game lead over the Seattle Seahawks for first place in the NFC West, which is, and has been, the weakest of the NFL's eight divisions in the regular season over the last five or six seasons.
Both St. Louis and Seattle have 5-6 records--the Rams won the only head-to-head meeting thus far--and the possibility of an 8-8 or 7-9 team winning a division and hosting a 10- or 11-win wild card team from another division has reignited debate on blogs and Twitter over whether should be afforded the luxury of hosting a playoff game.
Short answer: Yes, division winners should host a playoff game.
The first goal NFL teams have in July is to make the playoffs, and the surest way to do that in the current eight-division format is to win your own division. Divisional games comprise the largest chunk of their schedule, and unlike the teams jockeying for wild card spot, each team in each division plays essentially the same schedule, minus two games and home/road match-ups.
All 32 teams know before the season starts that the eight division winners will host playoff games, so it shouldn't come as a surprise when an 8-8, or even 7-9 team hosts a wild card team with a better regular season record.
If you think the NFL is going to change this format, try to imagine Robert Kraft, Jerry Jones, Woody Johnson, Daniel Snyder, John Mara/Steve Tisch, and the Rooney family agreeing to scenario where they'd give up a playoff gate if their team wins its division, but another team, from a potential top-heavy division with an easier non-conference schedule, finishes the regular season with a better record.
Since 2002, division winners are 8-4 in the playoffs against wild card teams from other divisions with the same or a better regular season record.

Raiders QB Bruce Gradkowski Has Separated Shoulder
The MRI on Oakland Raiders quarterback Bruce Gradkowski revealed a third-degree separation of his throwing shoulder, Steve Corkran of the Oakland Tribune.
Third-degree separations of the shoulder are the most severe, and require surgery and several months of rehabilitation.
Gradkowski was named the starter the night before Sunday's 33-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins. It was Gradkowski's fourth start of the season, and his first since aggravating an injury to the same shoulder in Week 5.
A favorite of head coach Tom Cable, injuries have kept Gradkowski off the field throughout the last year. Two torn knee ligaments ended his 2009 season, and the former Toledo standout suffered a torn pectoral muscle and strained groin during the off-season, keeping Gradkowski from seriously challenging Jason Campbell for the starting job.
Campbell will likely start against the San Diego Chargers on Sunday. Earlier this season, Campbell replaced an injured Gradkowski to lead the Raiders to a 35-27 win over the Chargers in Oakland.
In his first season with the Raiders, Campbell has completed 54.7% of his pass attempts for 1,322 yards with 7 touchdowns and 6 interceptions, adding 101 yards on the ground.

Jets May Swap Kickers
The New York Jets will work out free agent kicker Kris Brown today, ESPNNewYork.com's Rich Cimini reports.
Jets kicker Nick Folk is 22-of-30 on field goal attempts, but has missed five of his last 11 attempts over the last three weeks, prompting the club to look at free agent kickers.
Brown, 33, is 256-of-331 on field goal attempts during a 179-game career with the Pittsburgh Steelers (1999-2001), Houston Texans (2002-09), and San Diego Chargers, where he connected on 4-of-5 field goal attempts in a three-game stint in the middle of this season.
The Chargers released Brown when Nate Kaeding returned from a groin injury last week.

49ers RB Frank Gore to Miss Rest of Season
San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore had five carries for 52 yards before leaving tonight's 27-6 win over the Arizona Cardinals with a right hip injury.
Gore attempted to return to the game, but was unable to continue. Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network reports that Gore will miss the remainder of the season with a fractured right hip.
A two-time Pro Bowler, Gore's season ends with him 147 yards short of a fifth straight 1,000-yard season.
Veteran running back Brian Westbrook, who had 5 carries for 9 yards heading into tonight, replaced Gore, gaining 136 yards on 23 carries, his first 100-yard game since December 7, 2008. Westbrook and 2010 sixth-round pick Anthony Dixon will likely share the rushing load for the 49ers, who could also sign veteran Deshawn Wynn off the practice squad.

Bowlen Walking Back McDaniels Statement
Earlier today, Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen told Thomas George of NFL FanHouse that head coach Josh McDaniels would be back in 2011.
"Yes he will, Bowlen told George. "I am not interested in making a coaching change."
Tonight, Bowlen is walking that statement back with a new statement, indicating that a decision on McDaniels' future will come after the season.
Via the Denver Post:
"This has been a very trying and disappointing season for all of us. We haven't had the success we had hoped to achieve. Josh McDaniels is the head coach of the Broncos, and you always strive for stability at that position. However, with five games left in the 2010 season, we will continue to monitor the progress of the team and evaluate what's in the best interest of this franchise."

McDaniels Will Be Back in 2011
According to Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen, head coach Josh McDaniels will remain the team's head coach in 2011, Thomas George of NFL FanHouse reports.
"Yes he will," Bowlen said when asked if McDaniels be back in 2011. "I am not interested in making a coaching change."
After starting out his tenure as head coach by trading 25-year old Pro Bowl quarterback Jay Cutler for Kyle Orton and draft picks, the Broncos began last season by winning its first six regular season games. Denver finished 2-8 the rest of the way and missing the playoffs for a fourth consecutive season.
McDaniels has clashed with several assistant coaches, with three (including defensive coordinator Mike Nolan) departing the team last January, and there have been several questionable personnel decisions, including trading of running back Peyton Hillis, using a first-round pick on quarterback Tim Tebow, and trading a 2010 first-round to trade up in the second-round of the 2009 NFL Draft to select cornerback Alphonso Smith, who has since been traded to the Detroit Lions for a fullback.
The Broncos have won just 5 of their last 21 games, and at 3-8, are headed towards their fourth straight non-winning season. The franchise and McDaniels were fined $50,000 each after the team's former video director, Steve Scarnecchia, illegally filmed a San Francisco 49ers' walk-through practice on October 30. McDaniels failed to immediately report the infraction to the league, resulting in his fine.
"I'm very happy with Josh. Josh is doing a good job," said Bowlen of the 34-year old head coach. "I wish he had a few more wins, but we've got five games to go. I've got 27 years in this business. The ball bounces funny and it doesn't always bounce your way. We've had bad breaks, injuries. I've been around football long enough to know this happens and it's a part of the game. We've still got a chance to make the playoffs. People have been in a position like ours and it's been done before."

Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams Discusses Future
Provided a new collective bargaining agreement is reached, Carolina Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams is scheduled to be a free agent after the season.
Despite the presence of 2008 first-round running back Jonathan Stewart and 2009 fourth-round pick Mike Goodson, Williams would like to stay with the Panthers, Joseph Person of The Charlotte Observer reports.
"I think it’s a proven fact that you need more than a couple tailbacks to get through seasons sometimes," said Williams, who had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons entering this season, but gained just 361 yards on 87 carries before he was placed on injured reserve on November 17 with a sprained foot.
"I’d love to be a Carolina Panther. But if they don’t want me here--or not that they don’t want me here--if they have other things that they have to do," said Williams. "Because there’s a lot of stuff that has to be done here, and they’ve got to address those issues."

Andre Johnson, Cortland Finnegan Fined $25,000
Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network reports that Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson or Tennessee Titans cornerback Cortland Finnegan will be suspended for their fight during Sunday's game in Houston.
Both players have been fined $25,000 by the league.
Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean notes that Johnson was fined $8,333 per punch thrown, with Finnegan fined $25,000 for being punched.
It's hard to look at the discipline handed down and not reach the conclusion that Finnegan's reputation as one of the dirtier players in the league impacted each player's level of discipline.

Cowboys RB Marion Barber Unlikely to Play vs. Indianapolis
Dallas Cowboys running back Marion Barber's strained left calf kept him from practicing on Monday, and will likely keep him from playing in Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts, David Moore of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Barber's injury is described by interim head coach Jason Garrett as a "day-to-day" situation, which will be monitored throughout the week.
"We'll see how he'll he responds as we go," Garrett said.
Barber has struggled this season, averaging just 3.1 yards per carry on 102 carries and prompting calls for him to be replaced in the starting lineup with Felix Jones.
In other Cowboys news, quarterback Tony Romo did some light throwing for the first time, and rookie safety Andrew Sendejo was signed off the team's practice squad. Rookie defensive tackle Jimmy Saddler-McQueen has been placed on waivers.

Bills Sign CB Trae Williams to Practice Squad
Free agent cornerback Trae Williams has signed with the Buffalo Bills practice squad, Ken Sarnoff, Williams' agent, announced on Twitter.
A fifth-round pick (159th overall) out of South Florida by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2008, the 5-10, 195-pound Williams spent his rookie season on the Philadelphia Eagles' practice squad, and was on the Seattle Seahawks' practice squad when the Pittsburgh Steelers added him to their 53-man roster last November.
Williams did not appear in an regular season game for the Steelers, and was waived in June. Williams went to training camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this season, but did not make the 53-man roster.
In three pre-seasons' worth of action, Williams has 10 tackles, one interception (with Jacksonville), and a pair of passes defensed.
The Bills still have one open spot on the practice squad after signing wide receiver Naaman Roosevelt and linebacker Thomas Williams to the 53-man roster on Saturday.

Chargers WR Vincent Jackson Injured Prior to Last Night's Game
Following a prolonged contract squabble, San Diego Chargers wide receiver Vincent Jackson's highly-anticipated return to the gridiron lasted two plays, with Jackson exiting last night's 36-14 win over the Indianapolis Colts with a right calf injury.
Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Jackson's injury may have been the result of the 2009 Pro Bowler overcompensating for a left calf injury that happened during a practice last week.
After not signing his restricted free agent tender during the summer, Jackson was placed on the team's "Roster Exempt" list in August, which required him to sit out three games following the date he reported to the team.
Jackson signed his tender on October 29, but was able to practice in the four weeks prior to being activated to the 53-man roster.

Report: Texans WR Andre Johnson Will Not Be Suspended
Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson will not be suspended for his brawl with Tennessee Titans cornerback Cortland Finnegan on Sunday, Mark Berman of FOX-26 in Houston reports.Johnson, who became the first receiver in NFL history to catch 60+ passes in each of his first eight seasons on Sunday, will be fined for throwing punches at Finnegan, who had aggressively jammed Johnson in the facemask in the second half of Houston's 20-0 win over the Titans.
Both players were ejected from the game.
Finnegan allegedly told the Texans' sideline to "watch this" before going after Johnson. Despite the play being a premeditated incident on Finnegan's part, and despite Finnegan's repeated fines from earlier this season, Gregg Rosenthal of NBCSports.com is hearing that Finnegan won't face a suspension, either.

NFL Negotiator Wants to Expedite CBA Talks
NFL executive vice president of labor/league counsel Jeff Pash wants to quicken the pace of talks with the players' union towards a new collective bargaining agreement.
"Well, there is no reason we can’t have a deal by March 3," Pash told Daniel Kaplan of SportsBusiness Journal last Wednesday. "What we need is to have sustained engagement. We need to be meeting regularly, we need to leave meetings not worried about how we are going to characterize meetings, whether we are gloomy, whether we’re upbeat, whether we are excited, whether we are exhausted. We need to get past that.
"But it has got to be a shared commitment. One side cannot do it alone."
The NFL and NFLPA reportedly held positive talks early last Monday in New York, which could lead to more negotiations between now and when the current labor agreement expires on March 3.

NFL Changes Start Time of Patriots-Bears Game
The Chicago Bears announced that their December 12 home game against the New England Patriots has been changed to a 4:15pm ET kickoff.
The game had originally been scheduled to begin at 1pm ET.
CBS has the broadcast, which will likely be the marquee game in that time slot. Other CBS games in that time slot are the Denver Broncos at Arizona Cardinals and Miami Dolphins at New York Jets.

Buccaneers Place Grimm, Joseph on IR
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be placing guard Davin Joseph and safety Cody Grimm on season-ending injured reserve.
Joseph suffered a foot injury, while Grimm broke his fibula during Sunday's 17-10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Grimm will be replaced in the starting lineup by Sabby Piscitelli, though Corey Lynch, practice squad safety Vince Anderson, and cornerback Ronde Barber could see time at free safety.
Jeremy Zuttah is the likely replacement at right guard for Joseph, a former first-round pick who is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent this off-season.

Buccaneers S Cody Grimm Likely Out for Season
Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie safety Cody Grimm's season has likely come to an end, Stephen Holder of the St. Petersburg Times reports.
Grimm broke his left fibula while blocking after Aqib Talib's second quarter interception.
The son of Hall of Fame guard Russ Grimm, and a seventh-round pick out of Virginia Tech, Grimm stepped into the starting lineup in Week 3 and has 53 tackles and a pair of interceptions on the season. Grimm returned one of his picks for a touchdown in the Bucs' 24-21 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
With Grimm likely headed to injured reserve, the Buccaneers will turn to Sabby Piscitelli to start at free safety. Corey Lynch is the only other safety on the Buccaneers' 53-man roster, meaning there will be some roster shuffling this week.
One name that will apparently be added to the Buccaneers' roster, either active or practice squad, is defensive tackle E.J. Wilson.
"Ya boy is a Buccaneer. South Florida here I come!", Wilson tweeted.
A 2010 fourth-round pick out of the University of North Carolina by the Seattle Seahawks, Wilson (6-2, 289) appeared in two games before he was placed on waivers last Tuesday.

Colts S Bob Sanders to Visit Dr. Andrews
Indianapolis Colts safety Bob Sanders will visit with Dr. James Andrews this week, Andrea Kremer of NBC Sports reports.
Sanders, sidelined with a biceps injury since the season-opener, hopes to receive clearance from the Birmingham, Alabama-based orthopedic surgeon to return to practice.
Despite suffering his second serious injury in two seasons, the Colts opted not to place the 2007 NFL Defensive Player of the Year on injured reserve. The 5-8, 206-pound Sanders has 290 tackles, 3.5 quarterback sacks, and 6 interceptions during his career, which has only included two seasons (2005, 2007) where he played more than six games.

McDaniels Explained How SpyGate Was Different
FOXSports.com's Jay Glazer reports that during a Denver Broncos staff meeting, head coach Josh McDaniels explained how the Broncos' filming of a San Francisco 49ers' walk-through practice on October 30 was different from the New England Patriots' SpyGate incident.
According to Glazer, "...Josh McDaniels in staff mtg on fri said latest video tape scandal isn't like SpyGate bc that was practiced & coached".
A former Patriots assistant coach admitting that the Patriots' illegal taping of opponents was "practiced and coached" should re-open some old wounds in Foxborough, Massachusetts, as well as raise a few eyebrows in the league office in New York.
What will also raise eyebrows, within team headquarters, is how McDaniels' explanation was leaked to the media. During his appearance on the FOX pre-game show, Glazer offered some insight into why that's happened.
After the Broncos' 59-14 loss to the Oakland Raiders on October 24, McDaniels brought his entire coaching staff into owner Pat Bowlen's office and "lambasted" the group for their performance the previous week.
With three assistants--longtime running backs coach Bobby Turner, offensive line coach Rick Dennison, and defensive coordinator Mike Nolan--leaving the Broncos last January, its' clear that McDaniels may not inspire much loyalty from his support staff.
McDaniels and the Broncos were each fined $50,000 for the October 30th incident, which involved former Broncos video director Steve Scarnecchia secretly filming six minutes of the 49ers' walk-through practice. Scarnecchia brought the film to McDaniels, who declined to view it.
(Wary of the Broncos lingering before their practice, the 49ers ran dummy plays.)
The NFL fined McDaniels for failing to immediately report the incident, which resulted in the termination of Scarnecchia's employment.
Scarnecchia and McDaniels worked for the Patriots during the SpyGate incident, with Scarnecchia's name surfacing in the investigation despite his departure from the organization after the 2004 season.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will meet with Scarnecchia, who may be barred from working for an NFL team in the future.

Eagles CB Ellis Hobbs Contemplating Retirement
After suffering his second neck injury in a year, Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Ellis Hobbs is contemplating retirement, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Hobbs finished 2009 on injured reserve after undergoing anterior cervical decompression and fusion surgery last December. Hobbs suffered his second neck injury after a helmet-to-helmet collision with Dave Tollefson during Sunday night's 27-17 win over the New York Giants.
X-rays were negative, but an MRI on Monday revealed an injury to a different disk.
A third-round pick (84th overall) out of Iowa State by the New England Patriots in 2005, Hobbs had 198 tackles and 9 interceptions in 63 games for the Patriots before he was traded to Philadelphia in 2009.
In 16 games for the Eagles, Hobbs has 27 tackles and an interception.
Due to the rules governing the uncapped season, Hobbs was not eligible for unrestricted free agency this past off-season and played this season under a one-year restricted free agent tender worth $2.7995 million.

49ers Ran Dummy Plays During Walk-Through
Wary of lingering members of the Denver Broncos, the San Francisco 49ers ran phony plays during their now infamous Saturday walk-through at Wembley Stadium on October 30, Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com reports.
"We lined up in different formations and did a bunch of crazy stuff...We didn't even run any of our plays," one unidentified player said on Saturday.
After an investigation by the National Football League, the Broncos were fined $50,000 for the incident, with Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels receiving a $50,000 for failing to immediately disclose the incident, which occurred the day before the 49ers' 24-16 win over the Broncos.
Steve Scarnecchia, the Broncos' video director who filmed six minutes of the 49ers' walk-through, has been fired with cause and may be barred from working in the National Football League.
Scarnecchia and McDaniels were both employed by the New England Patriots from 2001-04, with Scarnecchia moving on to the University of Colorado in 2005 and the New York Jets, where he worked from 2006 through 2009, when he reunited with McDaniels in 2009.
Scarnecchia's previous employment with the Patriots, who were found to have secretly and illegally filmed opposing coaching signals during his tenure in Foxborough, is why the NFL is considering this a second offense necessitating a lifetime ban.

Colt Brennan Released From Hospital
Free agent quarterback Colt Brennan has been released from a Honolulu hospital, eight days after he was involved in a head-on collision on the island of Hawaii.
Brennan was a passenger in an SUV being driven by his longtime girlfriend, when their vehicle reportedly crossed the center line and collided with a vehicle being driven by Ms. Theresa Wang.
Ms. Wang remains hospitalized.
In a statement released by his agent, Brennan asked that the support he's received be directed to Ms. Wang.
"It is with a heavy heart that I am able to leave the hospital today, as my prayers and thoughts remain with Theresa Wang and her family. I am so grateful for all of the support I received over the past week. I am also relieved that Shakti is close to a full recovery. I ask that the same support I received be directed to Ms. Wang as she recovers from this unfortunate accident.
"I thank God to be alive today, and am thankful to everyone who played a role in providing medical attention to each of us. The EMTs, everyone at Kona Community Hospital and Queens Medical Center, were simply amazing. They saved my life. I am thankful to my family and friends that stood by my side and prayed for my recovery. I am thankful to everyone who was concerned for me, especially the people of Hawaii and the UH Football community. Your spirit is my strength.
"I will return with my parents to Orange County to continue treatment for my injuries. I am determined to make a complete recovery, and my desire to continue playing football burns stronger than ever."

The Washington Redskins announced that wide receiver Joey Galloway has been placed on waivers.
Rookie wide receiver Terrence Austin has been signed off the practice squad.
Galloway, who turned 39 last Saturday, caught 12 passes for 173 yards in 10 games this season, his first with the Redskins. Dolphins Downgrade WR Brandon Marshall to Out
FOXSports.com's Jay Glazer reports the Miami Dolphins have downgraded wide receiver Brandon Marshall to "out" for tomorrow's game against the Oakland Raiders.
A hamstring injury kept Marshall from participating in this week's practices, and the Dolphins had listed Marshall as "Doubtful" on Friday's injury report.
With Marshall out, Oakland native Davone Bess figures to see more playing time opposite Brian Hartline. Bess ranks second on the Dolphins in receptions (49) and is tied for the team lead with three touchdown receptions.

Saints DE Will Smith Arrested on Domestic Battery Charge
New Orleans Saints defensive end Will Smith was arrested and charged with domestic battery, Cindy Chang of The Times-Picayune reports.
Smith, 29, was arrested by Lafayette Police after he allegedly grabbed his wife by the hair, causing minor injuries, during an argument near a Lafayette, Louisiana nightclub.
A first-round pick (18th overall) in 2004 out of Ohio State, Smith (6-3, 282) has started 85 of his 104 games with the Saints, totaling 351 tackles and 53 quarterback sacks. Smith went to the Pro Bowl in 2006 after posting 10.5 quarterback sacks during his first season as a full-time starter.
Smith had a career-high 13 quarterback sacks during the Saints' Super Bowl-winning season in 2009, but has just 3.5 quarterback sacks during 10 games this season. Smith had three tackles, including a quarterback sack, and an interception during the Saints' 30-27 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving.
Smith was released on $1,000 bond.

Bills Place LB Shawne Merriman on IR
The Buffalo Bills announced that they have placed linebacker Shawne Merriman on injured reserve.
Merriman injured his calf during his first practice with the Bills, who had claimed him waivers after the San Diego Chargers released him from their injured reserve list. Merriman originally injured his calf/Achilles in the first half of a Week 3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
The three-time Pro Bowler will earn $1.73 million from the Bills for a brief, ten-minute appearance at one practice.
In addition to Merriman, linebacker Keith Ellison was also placed on injured reserve. Linebacker Thomas Williams and wide receiver Naaman Roosevelt have been signed off the team's practice squad to replace Merriman and Ellison on the 53-man roster.

Broncos' Bowlen, McDaniels Issue Statements
Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen and head coach Josh McDaniels have issued the following statements following the news that the Broncos and McDaniels were fined $50,000 each regarding the illegal taping of an opponent's practice.
The Broncos were fined for the incident, which occurred on October 30 in London's Wembley Stadium, while McDaniels was fined for failing to immediately report the incident.
From Bowlen:
"I received notice today that the National Football League has completed its investigation of an incident involving our club’s violation of the League’s Integrity of the Game Policy, specifically a videotaping of a portion of the San Francisco 49ers’
'walk-through' practice on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at Wembley Stadium in London.
"Upon learning of this incident, the Denver Broncos promptly began an investigation into this matter and reported this violation to the League office, which then started its investigation.
"The Denver Broncos fully cooperated with every aspect of the League investigation.
Upon completion, the investigation revealed the following facts:
· The person who videotaped a portion of the “walkthrough” practice did so on his own and was not directed to do so by anyone within the organization, including Head Coach Josh McDaniels.
· Upon learning that the “walkthrough” had been videotaped, the Head Coach informed the person who did the taping that this was not acceptable, that this is not how the Denver Broncos organization conducts business and that he would not view the videotape.
· The videotape was subsequently deleted from the computer where it resided by the employee who performed the taping. No one from the organization viewed the videotape prior to Sunday’s game against the 49ers.
· The videotaping of this “walkthrough” practice was a one-time occurrence, erroneously performed by one employee who used extremely poor judgment.
· Head Coach Josh McDaniels was right to inform the employee that he had no interest in viewing the tape and that it was not how he or the Denver Broncos conducts business. However, under League Policy he is obligated to promptly notify the League of this matter and his failure to do so has resulted in discipline imposed by the Commissioner.
"The Denver Broncos and I, as the Owner, believe in the integrity of the National Football League and fair competition and do not, in any way, condone this type of behavior. The fact that an employee of the Denver Broncos would take such action is personally disappointing to me. I apologize to all affected by this incident. This employee is no longer with the organization.
"This incident cuts into the trust and respect our fans, our ticket holders, our community and our fellow competitors have for our organization. That is why the Denver Broncos, upon learning of this violation, immediately investigated this matter and reported the incident to the League.
"The Denver Broncos and I accept the discipline imposed by the NFL. We will take all steps to ensure that an incident like this never occurs again. We will always strive to uphold the integrity of our organization and the National Football League."
From McDaniels:
"I apologize for not promptly reporting the improper conduct of our video director before our game against the 49ers in London. The actions of this individual are in no way representative of the values and integrity held by myself, our players and coaches, and the entire Denver Broncos organization.
"I understand the punishment from the National Football League and support its commitment to the integrity of the game. We have addressed the situation internally to assure that nothing like this happens again."

Broncos Fined For Illegally Taping Opponent
Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports the Denver Broncos and head coach Josh McDaniels were each fined $50,000 for illegally taping an opponent.
According to La Canfora, the organization reported the violation, which occurred during the San Francisco 49ers' walk-through practice at London's Wembley Stadium on October 30, to the league office after becoming aware of the incident during their bye week.
"Team video director Steve Scarnecchia took the video and presented it that day to head coach Josh McDaniels, who declined to view it," La Canfora adds. McDaniels did not report the incident, however, resulting in his $50,000 fine from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
Scarnecchia, who held similar positions with the New England Patriots (2001-04) and New York Jets (2006-09), has been terminated and, as a repeat offender, may be barred from working in the NFL.
Scarnecchia and McDaniels previously worked together for the Patriots, who were caught videotaping Jets' coaching signals during a game in the 2007 season. The Patriots were fined $250,000, forfeited their first round draft pick in 2008, and head coach Bill Belichick was fined $500,000.
The latest issue likely increases the temperature of McDaniels seat in Denver.
Since starting 6-0 in 2009, the Broncos have won just 5 of their last 20 games. McDaniels not only hired Scarnecchia, he's overseen the deconstruction of a roster that included jettisoning two Pro Bowl players (Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall), has sunk money into the quarterback position on Kyle Orton and 2010 first-round pick Tim Tebow, neither of whom may be the long-term answer, and has used high-round picks on an oft-injured wide receiver (Demaryius Thomas) and to trade up to select a cornerback (Alphonso Smith) he'd trade after one season to acquire one of the Gronkowski brothers.
Denver's offense ranks dead last in running the ball, and it's defense--constructed primarily with McDaniels' free agent signings--is one of the oldest in the NFL and ranks 31st against the run and 26th overall a year after posting a 7th overall ranking.
Last year's defensive coordinator, Mike Nolan, left the franchise in January, the third assistant coach to bolt after McDaniels' inaugural season.
Broncos owner Pat Bowlen is already paying his good friend Mike Shanahan to not coach his team, and the prevailing wisdom has been that he won't pay two head coaches not to work for his team. At some point, however, Bowlen may have no choice but to come to terms with the fact that the McDaniels' hiring has not improved the team, its roster, and is actually beginning to damage the franchise's reputation.
