Favre's Starting Streak Will Reach 292

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre will get the start this afternoon against the New England Patriots.

Favre (ankle) was questionable to play, but the decision to play was reportedly up to him. Considering this is likely his final season in the NFL, ending the streak was likely never a part of Favre's though process.

Tarvaris Jackson will be the #2 quarterback, and it wouldn't be a great surprise if he plays at some point on Sunday.

Childress Has Not Told Team Who'll Start at Quarterback

Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress did not reveal to his team who will start at quarterback during last night's team meeting, Judd Zulgad of the Star Tribune reports.

During the week, Childress was reportedly leaning towards starting Tarvaris Jackson, but Brett Favre's ankle was feeling better late in the week.

The 41-year old, who is currently riding a 291-game consecutive starting streak, returned to practice on Friday and Saturday, and told ESPN's Ed Werder that he'd like to start this afternoon against the New England Patriots.

PFT: Saints RB Reggie Bush Could Be Out Until Week 11

Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com reports that New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush might not return from his fractured fibula until after the bye week.

According to Florio, the bone is not healing as quickly as anticipated.

Bush suffered the injury during the Saints' 25-22 win over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 2. The original prognosis was for Bush to miss 4-to-6 weeks, with tomorrow night's game being the sixth game Bush will miss.

Bush tested the injury during this week's practices, but doesn't feel it's where it needs to be in order for him to be successful on the football field.

"It's just kinda something we all decided and just felt like I wasn't 100 percent ready to get on the field," Bush said according to Mike Triplett of The Times-Picayune. "And, you know, it's tough, because this is such an important game for us and it's a big game for us. And it's tough being on the sidelined, knowing you can help your team contribute in situations. But as of right now I've got to do my best to help the guys that are in there the best I can."

The Saints visit the Carolina Panthers next Sunday, their final game before the bye. Bush's college coach, Pete Carroll, brings his Seattle Seahawks to the Superdome on November 21.

Dolphins Sign S Jon Amaya Off Practice Squad

The Miami Dolphins announced that they have signed rookie safety Jon Amaya off their practice squad.

Fullback Deon Anderson has been placed on injured reserve.

Amaya (6-1, 190) went undrafted out of Nevada. Signed by the Dolphins in May, Amaya had five tackles and an interception during the pre-season before being waied and re-signed to the practice squad in Week 1.

Anderson was signed by the Dolphins in Week 7, was inactive for Sunday's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and a triceps injury had him listed as doubtful for tomorrow's game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The 5-10, 240-pound fullback has three rushing yards, 9 receptions for 67 yards, and 21 special teams tackles in 39 games over the last three seasons, all with the Cowboys, who chose him in the sixth-round (195th overall) out of Connecticut in 2007.

Anderson injured his knee during the 2010 regular season-opener against the Washington Redskins, and was released with an injury settlement on September 24.

Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams Doesn't Make Trip to St. Louis

Carolina Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams and wide receiver Devin Thomas have been downgraded to "out" for tomorrow's game against the St. Louis Rams.

Darin Gantt of the Charlotte Observer reports that neither player accompanied the team on their flight to St. Louis on Saturday.

With Williams out, Jonathan Stewart and Mike Goodson will handle the rushing load for the Panthers. Stewart, one of the team's first-round picks in 2008, has 148 yards on 50 carries this season, while Goodson has six carries for 20 yards.

Chargers Officially Add WR Gary Banks to Roster

The San Diego Chargers have officially signed wide receiver Gary Banks off the practice squad.

Veteran offensive tackle Adam Terry has been released.

The 28-year old Banks joined the Chargers as an undrafted free agent out of Troy in 2008. Banks has 12 receptions for 159 yards during three pre-seasons' worth of action.

Chargers wide receivers Malcolm Floyd and Legedu Naanee are doubtful for Sunday's game with hamstring injuries.

Favre Expects to Start on Sunday

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre tells ESPN's Ed Werder that his ankle is feeling better, and that the 41-year old intends to start on Sunday against the New England Patriots.

Favre missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday, but shed his walking boot and practiced on Friday.

Vikings head coach Brad Childress has been leaning towards starting Tarvaris Jackson, mentioning that Favre's 291-game starting streak will not be a factor in his decision for who starts against the Patriots.

The amount of money and leeway given to Favre this summer dictates that if he's healthy and wants to start, he'll do just that.

Steelers Add DL Steve McLendon Off Practice Squad

The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed defensive lineman Steve McLendon off the practice squad.

Signed by the Steelers as an undrafted free agent out of Troy in 2009, McLendon spent all of last season on Pittsburgh's practice squad. After opening this season on the practice squad, McLendon was activated for games against the Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens this season, recording his first NFL tackle and fumble recovery in his regular season debut.

McLendon is expected to be active for Sunday night's game against the New Orleans Saints.

Rookie linebacker Thaddeus Gibson has been waived to add McLendon to the roster.

A fourth-round pick out of Ohio State, Gibson (6-2, 240) has been a gameday inactive in each of the Steelers' six games this season.

Cardinals Activate LBers Hayes, Schofield

The Arizona Cardinals have activated linebackers Gerald Hayes off the physically unable to perform list, and O'Brien Schofield off the reserve/non-football injury list, the team announced on Saturday.

Wide receiver Onrea Jones and linebacker Alex Hall have been waived to make room for Hayes and Schofield on the 53-man roster.

A third-round pick out of Pittsburgh in 2003, Hayes spent his first two seasons in a reserve role before spending 2005 on injured reserve. Hayes returned in a full-time starting in 2006, totaling 341 tackles, 5.5 quarterback sacks, and 4 interceptions in 60 games during that period.

Hayes has been on PUP with a back injury.

Schofield has been recovering from a torn ACL, an injury that occurred during a practice at the Senior Bowl. Despite the injury, the Cardinals used the 130th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft on the former Wisconsin standout.

A two-year starter for the Badgers, Schofield earned first-team All-Big Ten honors after a senior season where he tallied 62 tackles, including 24.5 for a loss (second-most in the nation) and 12 quarterback sacks.

Steelers OT Willie Colon Healing Faster Than Expected

For Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Willie Colon, the disappointment of being placed on season-ending injured reserve with an Achilles injury in June was compound this week by the realization that he probably could return for a post-season run.

"My (teammates) made the comment they're kind of mad they put me on injured reserve after watching me do the shuttle runs," Colon said according to John Harris of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

A fourth-round pick (131st overall) out of Hofstra by the Steelers in 2006, the 6-3, 315-pounder from Hofstra has started 50 consecutive regular season games at right tackle for the Steelers, and four post-season games, as well.

For the second straight off-season, Colon was tendered at the "First Round" level as a restricted free agent, compensating him with $4.719 million while denying him the opportunity to test the free agent market. Provided that a new collective bargaining agreement is in place, Colon will get that chance after the season, and he'll apparently be healthy when he does so.

"I was surprised when I woke up (Thursday) morning," Colon said. "I thought I was going to be aching. It felt good."

Texans Owner Orders Supplement Sweep

After Houston Texans left tackle Duane Brown and linebacker Brian Cushing served four-game suspensions this season for violating the league's substance abuse policy, Texans owner Bob McNair asked that the players toss out all unapproved supplements in the locker room.

"We were discussing Duane’s situation, which was different from Brian’s, to see what we could do to try to prevent a recurrence," McNair said via John McClain of the Houston Chronicle. "We have control of the players while they’re at our facility, but when they go home, you don’t know what they might do.

"We’re trying to do everything we possibly can do to avoid a recurrence of somebody using a product that has something in it they were unaware of. We concluded that one thing we could do was to go through the locker room and make sure players are using products approved by one of the (NFL-approved) manufacturers...I asked (General Manager) Rick (Smith) to do that, and he did."

Despite what the Texans brass thinks, nothing the team has done will prevent a Texans player from using an unapproved supplement. They've just reduced the chances that the supplement was consumed inside the team's facility.

It's a start, but Brown put it best.

"I think it’s a good thing, but I can’t base my situation on it," Brown said. "It’s my responsibility for what I put in my body. We’re all responsible for what we put in our bodies."

Chargers to Sign WR Gary Banks to Active Roster

With wide receivers Malcolm Floyd and Legedu Naanee doubtful for Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans, the San Diego Chargers will sign wide receiver Gary Banks off their practice squad, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

The 28-year old Banks joined the Chargers as an undrafted free agent out of Troy in 2008. Banks has 12 receptions for 159 yards during three pre-seasons' worth of action.

In other Chargers' practice squad news, the team re-signed offensive tackle Nic Richmond and released offensive tackle Ryan Otterson.

Chargers WR Vincent Jackson Signs RFA Tender

Unsigned San Diego Chargers restricted free agent wide receiver Vincent Jackson has reported to the team and signed his one-year tender, the team announced on Friday.

"I've missed football more than you can imagine, right now I’m just looking forward to being able to practice and get back on the field," Jackson said in a statement released by the team. "My only concern is doing whatever I can to contribute and help the team win. The future will take care of itself."

Because the Chargers placed Jackson on the "exempt" list, by rule Jackson needs to sit out the next three games, meaning he'll miss games against the Tennessee Titans, Houston Texans, and Denver Broncos.

San Diego has the bye in between the Texans and Broncos games, but the maximum number of game checks Jackson can miss during this period is three. Jackson will be eligible to return for the final six weeks of the season, earning an accredited season towards unrestricted free agency next off-season.

Jackson's tender, which was originally worth $3.268 million, has been reduced to $682,000, 110% of Jackson's 2009 salary. Because he can only miss a maximum of three game checks after coming off the "exempt", Jackson will receive 7/17ths of his reduced tender amount, or $280,824 for the 2010 season.

The 6-5, 240-pound Jackson is coming off a career season, catching 68 passes for 1,167 yards and 9 touchdowns, earning his first trip to the Pro Bowl. Jackson has 198 receptions for 3,400 yards and 25 touchdowns since being chosen by the Chargers in the second-round (61st overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft out of Colorado State.

Jackson was suspended for the first three games of the season for repeat violations of the league's personal conduct policy in regards to his two DUI convictions.

New England Patriots guard Logan Mankins is now the lone unsigned restricted free agent. Mankins is expected to report to the Patriots after Week 10.

Rams WR Danario Alexander to Have Knee Scoped

St. Louis Rams wide receiver Danario Alexander hobbled off the field after landing awkwardly on his left knee during today's practice.

FOXSports.com's Adam Caplan reports that Alexander will undergo arthroscopic surgery that will sideline for a few weeks.

Knee issues were the only thing that kept NFL teams from using a pick on the 6-5, 215-pound receiver from the University of Missouri, including a left knee injury during the Senior Bowl that required surgery.

Alexander signed with the Rams in August. After spending the first few weeks of the season on the practice squad, Alexander signed a four-year deal, which included a signing bonus over $35,000, to join the active roster. Alexander caught 4 passes for 72 yards and a touchdown in his debut, but followed that up with just one catch for six yards last week.

Jason Campbell to Start For Oakland

Oakland Raiders quarterback Jason Campbell will get the start this Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, Paul Gutierrez of CSNBayArea.com reports.

Raiders head coach Tom Cable hasn't hid his preference to have Bruce Gradkowski start, but a right shoulder injury has limited Gradkowski's availability during this week's practices.

Acquired during the 2010 NFL Draft, Campbell opened the season as the starter, but was injured during Week 2, with Gradkowski taking over and leading the Raiders to a win. Campbell returned the favor, taking over for an injured Gradkowski as the Raiders came from behind to end the franchise's lengthy losing streak to the San Diego Chargers in Week 5.

Overall, Campbell has completed 56.8% of his 111 pass attempts for 713 yards with 4 touchdowns and 4 interceptions this season, compiling a passer rating of 73.1.

NFL Fines Randy Moss $25,000

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Randy Moss has been fined $25,000 by the National Football League for failing to comply with the media, Judd Zulgad of the Star Tribune reports.

Moss did speak with Star Tribune columnist Sid Hartman on Thursday, but that was likely after the fine was handed down.

Cardinals DT Darnell Dockett Fined $15,000

Arizona Cardinals defensive lineman Darnell Dockett was fined $15,000 by the National Football League for his late hit on Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Mike Williams.

Dockett was flagged after hitting Williams, who had been tackled after gaining 7 yards on a 3rd-and-12 play with less than 5 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Seahawks center Chris Spencer immediately called for a flag, which was thrown. Dockett's penalty extended Seattle's drive, allowing them to run another 3 1/2 minutes off the game clock to preserve the 22-10 win.

Seahawks defensive ends Raheem Brock (unsportsmanlike conduct) and Chris Clemons (potential helmet-to-helmet hit on Cardinals quarterback Max Hall) were not fined this week, nor was Seahawks guard Mike Gibson, who was flagged for an unnecessary roughness penalty after Olindo Mare's 51-yard field goal.

Gibson's penalty did prompt a practical joke inside the Seahawks' locker room this week.

Alabama Grand Jury Declines to Indict JaMarcus Russell

A Mobile, Alabama grand jury has declined to indict free agent NFL quarterback JaMarcus Russell on drug charges, WKRG in Mobile reports.

During a raid at his home on July 5, authorities discovered "purple drank", a mixture of codeine syrup and Sprite (or 7-Up, Gatorade, juice, etc...), in Russell's bedroom. Russell was placed under arrest and charged with posession of codeine syrup without a valid prescription.

Russell plead not guilty to the charges on August 11, and a friend has come forward to claim responsibility for the codeine syrup.

The first overall pick of the 2007 NFL Draft expected to be cleared of the charges.

"It's an open case and I can't speak on it, but things will be acquitted in a matter of time," Russell said during an appearance last Saturday on The John Clayton Show on 710 ESPN Seattle. "They're still working on that. It will be thrown away as soon as possible."

Russell has a grievance hearing scheduled for November 30, with his former team, the Oakland Raiders, seeking repayment of $9.55 million they paid to Russell during this three-year stint with the franchise.

Rams, Bengals Avoid Blackouts

The Cincinnati Bengals and St. Louis Rams both announced that they have sold enough tickets to avoid having their home games this Sunday blacked out from local television.

Both teams received 24-hour extensions from the National Football League on Thursday.

For the Bengals, Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins will be the 56th consecutive sellouts, while the Rams are 5-for-5 at avoiding blackouts on the 2010 season.

Rams WR Danario Alexander Hobbles Off Field During Practice

St. Louis Rams wide receiver Danario Alexander "hobbled off" the field during today's practice after landing awkwardly on his left knee, the team's official Twitter account reported on Friday.

Alexander (6-5, 215) has undergone multiple surgeries on his left knee, which was the only reason the immensely talented rookie from Missouri went undrafted in April.

The Rams signed Alexander in August, and added him to their practice squad in September. Signed to a four-year, $1.8 million contract by the Rams earlier this month, Alexander caught 4 passes for 72 yards and a touchdown in his NFL debut.

Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo said Alexander will be evaluated this afternoon.

Broncos Rule Five Out for Sunday

Before boarding their flight to London, England for Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers, the Denver Broncos had already ruled three players out for Sunday.

Today, the Broncos added a pair of names--cornerback Perrish Cox and defensive lineman Kevin Vickerson--to a list that already included linebackers Robert Ayers and Wesley Woodyard, as well as safety Darcel McBath.

For the 49ers, tight end Vernon Davis was officially listed as "questionable".

Denver

Out: LB Robert Ayers (foot), CB Perrish Cox (concussion), S Darcel McBath (ankle), DT Kevin Vickerson (groin), LB Wesley Woodyard (hamstring)
Probable: S Brian Dawkins (knee), CB Andre Goodman (quadriceps), WR Eddie Royal (groin)

San Francisco

Out: C Eric Heitmann (ankle), QB Alex Smith (shoulder)
Doubtful: CB Tarell Brown (back)
Questionable: TE Vernon Davis (ankle), RB Anthony Dixon (hamstring)
Probable: LB Ahmad Brooks (knee), CB Nate Clements (ankle), T Adam Snyder (back)

Bengals to Sign S Rico Murray Off P-Squad

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis announced that safety Rico Murray will be signed off the team's practice squad, reports Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

The Bengals have an open spot on their 53-man roster.

Murray (5-11, 202) has been with the Bengals since signing as an undrafted free agent out of Kent State in 2009. Murray made one tackle in four games on the active roster during the 2009 season, and was active for the Bengals' Wild Card Playoff loss to the New York Jets.

Murray posted 15 tackles with a pass defensed during the 2010 pre-season, but was placed on waivers and re-signed to the practice squad.

Bengals defensive backs Jonathan Joseph, Leon Hall, Chinedum Ndukwe, Morgan Trent, and Roy Williams have either been limited or non-participants during this week's preparations for Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins.

Jaguars Waive QB Patrick Ramsey

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Patrick Ramsey has been placed on waivers, reports Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post.

Linebacker Jacob Cutrera has been signed off the practice squad.

Ramsey was signed on October 20, two days after the Jaguars lost quarterbacks David Garrard (concussion) and Trent Edwards (right thumb) to injuries in a 30-3 loss to the Tennessee Titans. Ramsey was designated the third quarterback in the Jaguars' 42-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs last Sunday.

Cutrera (6-3, 238) is an undrafted free agent from LSU. In four games this season, Cutrera has three special teams tackles.

Mac's Picks - 2010 Week 8

A quick look at this week's NFL games, picked against the spread for entertainment purposes.

Miami at Cincinnati (-2) - The Bengals' secondary is banged up, and now Carson Palmer is missing practices with a hip injury. Season is slipping away from the 2-4 Bengals. Pick: Dolphins +2

Jacksonville at Dallas (-6.5) - Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has gone from talking about how his team's playoff hopes are still alive to talking about how Dallas' season being over doesn't diminish the Super Bowl they're hosting in February. Pick: Cowboys -6.5

Washington at Detroit (-2.5) - Matthew Stafford's first NFL "win" came against the Redskins last September. The 2009 first-round pick makes his return to the starting lineup, but this is a much better Redskins team he'll be facing. Pick: Redskins +2.5

Buffalo at Kansas City (-8) - Not entirely sold on the Chiefs, but they'll handle their business against a winless team at Arrowhead. Pick: Chiefs -8

Green Bay at NY Jets (-6) - Mark Sanchez's struggles hasn't kept the Jets from extending their winning streak to five games, but I'll take a still-talented Packers team and the points against a team coming off a bye. Pick: Packers +6

Denver at San Francisco (-1) - Sorry, London. This looked like a much better match-up when the schedule-makers were doing their thing. Pick: 49ers -1

Carolina at St. Louis (-3) - Speaking of which, few would've thought that the Panthers would have one win headed into November, and even fewer would've thought the Rams would be .500. Pick: Rams -3

Tennessee at San Diego (-3.5) - Was stunned to learn that Jeff Fisher has never beaten the Chargers. Got a feeling that changes on Sunday. Pick: Titans +3.5

Tampa Bay at Arizona (-3) - The Cardinals don't have a quarterback, and ball security continues to be an issue with them. Contrary to what their head coach says, the Buccaneers are not the best team in the NFC, but they'll capitalize on your mistakes. Pick: Buccaneers +3

Minnesota at New England (-5) - Fully expect Brett Favre to start, but do not expect him to finish. Pick: Patriots -5

Seattle at Oakland (-2.5) - Oakland will have a hard time running for 300+ yards again this week, as the Seahawks have the NFL's 2nd-ranked run defense that will be geared up to force Jason Campbell to beat them. Pick: Seahawks +2.5

Pittsburgh at New Orleans (Pick 'em) - The Saints are struggling with consistency, showing signs of a Super Bowl hangover, something the 2006 and 2009 Steelers are familiar with. Pick: Steelers

Houston at Indianapolis (-5.5) - Houston beat the Colts in the season-opener, getting just their second win over Indianapolis in franchise history. Neither of those wins have been on the road. Pick: Colts -5.5

Last week: 7-7
2010 season: 43-54-7 (Against the spread)

Buccaneers Sign T Will Barker Off Practice Squad

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will activate rookie offensive tackle Will Barker from their practice squad, Barker's agent, Marc Lillibridge, announced on Twitter.

Guard Keydrick Vincent has been waived.

A four-year starter at right tackle for the University of Virginia, Barker (6-7, 315) has been on the Buccaneers' practice squad since being waived by the Dallas Cowboys at the end of training camp.

Barker has been earning a $6,000 per week practice squad salary from the Buccaneers, $800 above the $5,200 minimum. His elevation to the active roster is no surprise, as right tackle Jeremy Trueblood (knee) will miss Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals.

James Lee will start for Trueblood on an offense line that has backups starting at left guard (Ted Larsen) and center (Jeremy Zuttah).

Childress Leaning Towards Starting T-Jack

Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress is leaning towards starting Tarvaris Jackson at quarterback, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

A stress fracture in Brett Favre's left ankle, as well as an avulsion fracture in the heel of his left foot, has put Favre's legendary 291-game starting streak in jeopardy. Childress says Favre is getting better--a walking boot came off yesterday--but the 41-year old hasn't practiced this week as the 4-3 Vikings have been preparing to face the New England Patriots on the road this Sunday, and Jackson may give the team its best chance to win.

"He's doing a little better every day," Childress said of Favre. "Whether it's good enough to play in an NFL football game remains to be seen. Just taking it a day at a time."

Vikings offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, who worked with Favre with the Green Bay Packers, would be surprised if Favre didn't play.

"Surprising would probably be a good word," Bevell said on Thursday. "He's never not been out there so it would probably be a surprise. I was there [in Green Bay] and he broke the thumb. Immediately the doctor said, 'Hey, we've got to pin it and you're going to be out six to eight weeks.' In his mind, he said, 'Well wait a minute, I just played really well.' We didn't know it was broken. He said, 'I'm going to give it a shot.' He played with that as well. It would surprise me if he wasn't able to be out there."

My take: I'd be stunned if Favre doesn't start, but would expect him to give way to Jackson at some point on Sunday.

Report: Chiefs WR Dexter McCluster Has High Ankle Sprain

Kansas City Chiefs second-round wide receiver/return specialist Dexter McCluster has a high ankle sprain that will likely keep him out multiple weeks, reports Nick Wright of 610 Sports KCSP.

McCluster is listed as a "limited participant" on this week's injury reports.

The 5-8, 170-pound all-purpose offensive threat from Ole Miss has caught 15 passes for 147 yards and a touchdown, carried the ball 11 times for 60 yards, and has averaged 21.5 yards on 10 kick returns and 20.9 yards on seven punt returns, including a Chiefs-record 94-yard return for a touchdown in his NFL debut on Monday Night Football.

McCluster earned AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors in Week 1.

Redskins DT Albert Haynesworth Fined $7,500

Washington Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth has been fined $7,500 by the National Football League, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports.

Haynesworth's fine stems from a blind-side block of Chicago Bears rookie right tackle J'Marcus Webb during DeAngelo Hall's 92-yard interception return for a touchdown on Sunday.

Webb was flagged for a personal foul after the play.

Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan is prepared to defend Haynesworth's block to the league, provided he sees it first.

"A lot of times, I've gone to bat for players in those situations and determine what's in the best interests, if you've got a chance to win it or if you don't," Shanahan said via Jason Reid of the Washington Post. "I've got to look at it first. And if it is, we'll determine it. I've done that before. I've won. I've lost. So you never know."

Raiders-Seahawks Game Blacked Out

For the 11th straight time, this Sunday's Oakland Raiders home game will not be shown on local television, Paul Gutierrez of CSNBayArea.com reports.

Gutierrez notes that this is the 80th blackout the Raiders have had in the 124 home games since returning to the Bay Area in 1995.

Oakland's last sellout was the 2009 season-opener, a 24-20 loss to the San Diego Chargers on Monday Night Football.

Kenny Britt Denies Throwing a Punch

Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt doesn't deny being out on the town last Thursday night, but he denies throwing a punch during a brawl.

"Am I saying I was falsely accused? I believe so. You can’t believe everything the newspaper says," Britt said on Thursday via Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean, who also reported that Britt has hired a Nasvhille attorney.

Of course, newspapers didn't accuse Britt of throwing punches until several witnesses at Club Karma told the authorities that Britt punched 26-year old Harold Pointer, as indicated in the Metro police report.

"We probably had some words throughout the time we were there and probably the person that did touch him was probably with me and he probably thought so and he is falsely accusing me," said Britt.

"And that’s what happens throughout my life."

Since being chosen with the 30th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the former Rutgers star has been involved in several off-field incidents.

In January, Britt was arrested in Glen Ridge, New Jersey over $865 worth of outstanding traffic warrants. That arrest was followed by a report that Britt guaranteed a bail bond for a childhood friend who was charged possession of a firearm in connection to a murder. That friend, Albert Robinson, is already a convicted felon and in June was charged with the murder of a 17-year old Jersey City man, who authorities allege Robinson threw into the Hudson River.

Rams RB Steven Jackson Says He's Playing on Sunday

St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson declared himself a go for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers.

Jackson had two pins inserted in his fractured left ring finger earlier this week.

The NFL's 5th-leading rusher with 617 yards, Jackson bring a three-game 100+-yard rushing streak into Sunday's game against the Panthers, whose defense ranks 24th against the run and is two weeks removed from allowing the Bears to rack up 218 yards on the ground.

In other Rams injury news, left tackle Jason Smith left today's practice after he was a "little fuzzy" following a helmet-to-helmet collision with defensive end Chris Long.

Titans WR Kenny Britt Hires a Lawyer

With Nashville Metro police investigating his involvement in an assault case, Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt has hired a lawyer, reports Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean.

Less than 72 hours before catching 7 passes for 225 yards and 3 touchdowns in a 37-19 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, Britt was allegedly involved in a fight at Club Karma, a Nashville nightclub.

Witnesses have told police that Britt got involved in the fight between 29-year Bradford Miser and 26-year old Harold Pointer, who has gone on record as stating that Britt punched him several times in the face, landing him in an emergency room.

Before allowing him to play last Sunday, Titans head coach Jeff Fisher conducted his own investigation last Friday. NFL security is investigating the matter, as well.

Colts Backfield Still Battling Injuries

The bye week did little to improve the health of the Indianapolis Colts' backfield, with starter Joseph Addai and back-up Donald Brown unlikely to do much work during this week's practices.

"I do not anticipate Joseph practicing at all (today) and Donald is questionable. If he does, it will be limited work," Colts head coach Jim Caldwell said on Thursday via Phillip Wilson of the Indianapolis Star.

The Colts host the Houston Texans on Monday night.

Addai is coming off a season-high 128-yard effort two weeks ago against the Washington Redskins, but injured his shoulder in the fourth quarter. Brown, the team's first-round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, has missed the last three weeks with an injured hamstring.

With Brown out, third-year running back Mike Hart has picked up more carries, totaling 93 yards on 26 carries with a touchdown in five games.

Hart was one of four running backs on the Colts' initial 53-man roster this season, but the injuries to Addai and Brown, as well as the season-ending injury to Devin Moore, has prompted the Colts' front office to sign Javarris James off the Redskins' practice squad and claim Andre Brown off waivers from the Denver Broncos.

Lions-Redskins Game Blacked Out

This Sunday's Detroit Lions-Washington Redskins game at Ford Field will not be shown locally, the Lions announced on Thursday.

About 8,500 tickets remain available, or 13% of Ford Field's 65,000-seat capacity.

Detroit avoided black outs of their first two homes, a 35-32 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles (Week 2) and a 44-6 win over the St. Louis Rams in Week 5.

Half of the Lions' eight homes games last season were blacked out.

"Did We Catch the Pass?"

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was wired for sound during Monday night's 41-35 loss to the New York Giants, during which Romo suffered a fractured left clavicle that will keep him out for six-to-eight weeks, if not longer.

When the trainers reached a sprawled out Romo, and asked him if it was his collarbone, his response was "Did we catch the pass?".

Romo even attempted to return to the game, but trainers held him back.

The video linked above is a reminder of those "You wouldn't make it in pro football" ads from a few years ago.

Bengals Receive 24-Hour Blackout Extension

The Cincinnati Bengals have received a 24-hour extension to sell enough tickets to avoid a local television blackout, reports Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

According to the Bengals, less 2,000 tickets remain available for Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins. With that few tickets remaining, and the league granting an extension, corporate sponsors will step up before tomorrow's 1pm deadline.

Including post-season games, the Bengals have a 55-game sellout streak headed into this week.

Falcons Add TE Marquez Branson to Practice Squad

The Atlanta Falcons have signed first-year tight end Marquez Branson to their practice squad, Jay Adams of AtlantaFalcons.com reports.

Robbie Agnone has been placed on the practice squad injured reserve list with a foot injury.

Signed by the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent out of Central Arkansas in 2009, the 6-2, 248-pound Branson spent last season on the Broncos' practice squad after catching four passes for 26 yards during the pre-season.

Branson had 9 receptions for 59 yards and a touchdown for the Broncos this pre-season, but was released at the end of training camp.

Giants to Place Mathias Kiwanuka on IR

Mike Garafolo of The Star-Ledger reports the New York Giants will place defensive end/linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka on injured reserve.

Kiwanuka has a herniated disc in his neck. Doctors have told the 2006 first-round pick that surgery is not required to repair the disc, but have provided no timetable for his return to the field.

Since being chosen with the 32nd overall pick of the 2006 NFL Draft, Kiwanuka (6-5, 265) has 222 tackles, 23.5 quarterback sacks, and a pair of interceptions. In the final year of his rookie contract, Kiwanuka was poised to have a breakout season, posting four sacks in three games before his injury.

Will Blackmon, Kiwanuka's former teammate Boston College, will take his spot on the Giants' 53-man roster.
