Steelers Waive DL Steve McLendon

After wrapping up their bye week practice schedule, the Pittsburgh Steelers placed defensive lineman Steve McLendon on waivers, a league source said.

The roster move clears a spot for quarterback Ben Roethlisberger when the Steelers reconvene after the bye week.

McLendon has shuffled between the Steelers' active roster and practice squad the first month of the season, totaling one tackle in two games. The Steelers have an open spot on their practice squad, which McLendon will likely return should he clear waivers.

I thought they cleared a roster spot for Ben by putting Dennis Dixon on IR?

Pittsburgh put Dennis Dixon on IR to sign McLendon off the practice squad last Saturday.
