Report: McNabb, Redskins Talking Contract Extension

Sports Illustrated's Jim Trotter reports the Washington Redskins and the representatives for newly acquired quarterback Donovan McNabb are discussing a contract extension, which could be finalized this week.

No terms were discussed, but any extension would seemingly end, or severely restrict, the Redskins' interest in bringing restricted free agent quarterback Jason Campbell back for the 2010 season.

The Redskins have granted permission for Joel Segal, Campbell's agent, to seek trade opportunities. Campbell was tendered at the first-round level, but the Redskins, who no longer have a second-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, would likely accept a draft choice in the third- through fifth-rounds for a player the previous front office regime spent a first-round pick on in 2005.
