The New York Giants have signed veteran safety Deon Grant, Patricia Traina of InsideFootball.com reports.
Terms of the contract were not disclosed, though Traina adds that the Giants have rescinded the one-year RFA tender they extended to restricted free agent safety C.C. Brown, making him an unrestricted free agent. Brown had been tendered at the "Right of First Refusal" level.
A second-round pick out of Tennessee in the 2000 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers, Grant has also had three-year stints with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Seattle Seahawks. During his career, Grant has 640 tackles, 4.5 quarterback sacks, and 26 interceptions.
The Seahawks released Grant on March 15, in large part due to the three years and $17M remaining on his contract, which included a $4 million dollar base salary for the 2010 season.
Grant, who has started 144 consecutive games, provides veteran insurance at the back-end of the Giants' secondary, which currently includes newly signed safety Antrel Rolle and former first-round pick Kenny Phillips, who is recovering from surgery on an arthritic knee.
