Carolina Panthers defensive end Julius Peppers doesn't want a long-term deal from the team, Darin Gantt of The Herald reports Peppers as saying during an interview with WFNZ.
"I’m not going to say that, come out and say that," Peppers said when told by host Chris McClain that it sounded as though Peppers didn't want a long-term deal. "Last year, at the time, that was the option that I wanted most. But now it’s not.
"They’re not even talking to me, so why would I come out and say I want to be here, when the team is not even acknowledging the fact that my future with the organization is up in the air."
Placing the one-year franchise tag remains an option for the Panthers to get anything in return for Peppers, who will become an unrestricted free agent on March 5. The deadline to place the tag, which will cost the Panthers over $20 million dollars, is February 25.
