Bears to Sign CB Rod Hood

Veteran cornerback Rod Hood's latest foray into the NFL's free agent market was brief, with Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune reporting that Hood will sign a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears, perhaps as early as Tuesday.

McClure notes that after being released by the Arizona Cardinals, after two years on a five-year, $15M deal signed in 2007, Hood paid a free agent visit to the Bears in May.

During his six-year NFL career, which began as an undrafted free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2004, the former Auburn Tiger has started 43 of 87 games, totaling 218 tackles (200 solo), 1 quarterback sack and has intercepted 11 passes, including a career-high of 5 in 2007, two of which he returned for touchdowns.

The 5-11, 198-pound cornerback shouldn't be expected to start, but he provides depth to a secondary that has been beset by injuries this summer.

NFL to Restrict Twitter Use on Gamedays

The NFL announced today that players, coaches, and team-related personnel (i.e., public relations departments) are prohibited from using Twitter and other social-networking sites from 90 minutes before the beginning of a game.

They will be allowed to use Twitter immediately after the conclusion of the game.

Statement from Osi Umenyiora

New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora missed practice today after getting into a disagreement with defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan.

Tonight, Umenyiora issued the following statement through the team:

“I made a mistake by leaving the facility today. I was wrong. I came in here this afternoon and met with coach Coughlin, coach Sheridan and coach Waufle and apologized and explained why I left the building; that will remain between us. I have no problem with our defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan or any of our coaches. That’s the end of it, as far as I am concerned.”

Osi Goes AWOL (UPDATE)

New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora wasn't at practice today, and head coach Tom Coughlin classified his absence as "unexcused".

“Osi was here this morning and then there must have been something of a personal nature (because) he left,” Tom Coughlin said. “I haven’t talked to him.”

Umenyiora did send GM Jerry Reese a text message, the contents of which have not been disclosed. The seventh-year veteran has four years remaining on his current contract, but before last season, which he missed the entirety of due to a knee injury, he had expressed his displeasure with his deal.

UPDATE
: Mike Garafolo of the Star-Ledger reports that Umenyiora went AWOL after a disagreement with Giants defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan:
"The person, who requested anonymity because the Giants and Umenyiora's camp haven't discussed the matter publicly, said Sheridan criticized Umenyiora for making a mistake in Saturday's game against the Jets The two-time Pro Bowl selection didn't confront Sheridan, but was clearly upset enough to leave without letting the team know why he was departing. The person also said Umenyiora believed Sheridan was "contradicting" himself.

The person informed of Umenyiora's reason for leaving said the two-time Pro Bowl selection hasn't gotten off to a great start with Sheridan, the former linebackers coach who replaced Steve Spagnuolo after the former coordinator was hired as head coach of the Rams in January. The person said Umenyiora has not expressed his frustrations with Sheridan before Friday."

Steelers Extend Brett Keisel's Contract

Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel has signed a five-year contract extension that will keep in Black & Gold through the 2013 season.

Keisel's current deal, which pays him $3.25M in 2009, expires at the end of the season.

The former seventh-round pick (242nd overall) in the 2002 NFL Draft, Keisel, who turns 31 next month, has spent his entire 7-year career with Pittsburgh, starting 42 consecutive games and totaling 181 tackles and 11.5 quarterback sacks from his defensive end position.

Texans Trade DT Johnson to San Diego

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Houston Texans have traded defensive tackle Travis Johnson, the team's first-round pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, to the San Diego Chargers for a conditional draft pick in 2010.

That 2010 pick is presently a sixth-round pick, but through a playing-time stipulation, can increase to a fifth-round pick.

Johnson (6-3, 311) has started 38 games for Houston over the last four seasons, making 106 tackles and registering a pair of quarterback sacks. Last season, Johnson started a career-high 14 games, but has been on the physically-unable-to-perform list as he recovers from surgery to repair a sports hernia.

Bengals Place Utecht on IR

The Cincinnati Bengals announced that they have placed tight end Ben Utecht on season-ending injured reserve.

Utecht suffered his fifth concussion early on in training camp, and today's roster move was completely expected.

After three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, who signed Utecht as an undrafted free agent out of Minnesota in 2004, Utecht signed a three-year, $8.75 million dollar restricted free agent offer sheet, which the Colts elected not to match.

Utecht battled injuries in his first season with the Bengals, catching just 16 passes for 123 yards in ten games.

Chiefs Fire OC Chan Gailey

Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com reports that the Kansas City Chiefs have fired offensive coordinator Chan Gailey.

Gailey was a holdover from Herm Edwards' coaching staff, retained by head coach Todd Haley, who was hired in February.

In a follow-up article, PFT.com suggests that assistant head coach Maurice Carthon is a candidate to assume the offensive coordinator duties.

During three preseason games, the Chiefs offense ranks 25th in the NFL in yards per game, and unless tonight's Vikings-Texans game ends with a score of 2-0, the Chiefs' 33 points scored, which includes 6 points via an interception return for a touchdown, will be the lowest point total in the NFL this preseason.

Tedy Bruschi Retiring

NBC's Al Michaels announced during tonight's Denver Broncos-Chicago Bears preseason game that New England Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi will retire.

Bruschi is expected to announce his retirement tomorrow.

The 13-year veteran spent his entire career with the Patriots, who chose him with the 96th pick of the 1996 NFL Draft. Bruschi was named to two Pro Bowls (2004, 2005) and was a key leader on a team that won three Super Bowls.

Bengals Officially Sign 1st Round OT Andre Smith

The Cincinnati Bengals have announced that they have officially first-round offensive tackle Andre Smith.

Terms were not disclosed.

Today's contract agreement ends a 31-day standoff between the sixth overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft and the Bengals front office, who were previously unwilling to pay Smith more than what the player chosen directly after him signed for.

Smith was a three-year starter at Alabama, earning first-team All-SEC and All-American honors after the 2007 season and winning the Outland Trophy, awarded to top offensive lineman in the country, following his senior season.

Blessed with Pro Bowl ability, the left tackle entered the NFL with questions about his discipline, work ethic, and decision-making. He showed up overweight to the Combine in Indianapolis, left the Combine without telling anyone, and has changed agents.

With Smith signed, the only healthy draft pick who has yet to sign is San Francisco 49ers first-round wide receiver Michael Crabtree, who is looking for Top 5 money despite being the 10th overall pick.

Andre Smith Headed to Cincinnati

ESPN's Adam Schefter announced on his Twitter page that Cincinnati Bengals first-round offensive tackle Andre Smith is on a plane bound for Cincinnati, and if all goes well, will be signed in time for the team's 3pm practice.

Last night, Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco announced, also via his Twitter page, that Smith had signed, a report that was disputed by Smith's agent, Alvin Keels.

Smith, the sixth overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft, has reportedly asked for more money than the 7th overall pick, Oakland Raiders wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey, received. Thus far, the Bengals front office has been resistant to Keels' offer, suggesting that they are not required to adhere to the unofficial slotting system that presently exists.

With the season opener just two weeks away, time is running out for the Bengals to sign Smith in time for him to have an impact during his rookie season. He has missed all of training camp and three preseason games, and even if he were to sign today, it's unlikely that he'd be ready to do anything more than make a token appearance in Thursday night's preseason finale against the Indianapolis Colts.

Andre Smith Has Not Signed

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco announced on his Twitter page last night that Bengals first-round Andre Smith had signed with the team.

That news was quickly shot down by Smith's agent Alvin Keels, who did add that both sides are working towards a deal, and by Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer, who contacted Keels while the agent was in mid-Tweet.

From what I understand, the two sides had been $10M apart. While I do not know just how much of that gap has been bridged, or if it really has, the Bengals' decision to take part in HBO's "Hard Knocks" series has shown that it's the Bengals, not Smith or Keels, who are being unreasonable in negotiations.

It's the Bengals' position that they do not need to adhere to the slotting system that's in place by giving Smith a deal larger than the one signed by 7th overall pick Darrius Heyward-Bey ($38.25M over 5 years), and have instead offered Smith a deal closer to what Green Bay Packers defensive lineman B.J. Raji, the 9th pick, signed for.

Reedy mentions that something needs to happen within the next two weeks, but since this is the Bengals' front office we're talking about, I doubt anything will.

Buccaneers Tab Leftwich as Starter

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris has informed his team that veteran Byron Leftwich will be the team's starting quarterback when they open the regular season against the Dallas Cowboys.

Leftwich hasn't exactly lit things up this summer, completing 48.8% of his 43 pass attempts for 224 yards and a touchdown, resulting in a 72.2 passer rating.

During his six-year career, though, Leftwich has started 46 games for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Atlanta Falcons, and Pittsburgh Steelers. During that time, he's completed 58.6% of his passes for 9,624 yards, 54 touchdowns and 38 interceptions. That experience gave him an edge over Luke McCown (7 career starts), second-year quarterback Josh Johnson, and 2009 first-round pick Josh Freeman.

There has been some speculation that the Buccaneers would trade whichever quarterback they didn't choose--either Leftwich or McCown--but now that Leftwich is the guy, that may not be the most prudent path. Leftwich has never played a full 16-game season, and with Johnson and Freeman's inexperience, they may keep McCown to be an experienced backup.

The Detroit Lions have announced that they have released veteran wide receiver Billy McMullen.

McMullen, 29, was signed on August 11, three days after being released by the Seattle Seahawks. In 49 career games over a five-year career that has also included stints with the Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings, McMullen has 52 receptions for 725 yards and 3 touchdowns.

He started two games last year for the Seahawks.

49ers OT Marvel Smith is Retiring

Citing a league source, Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com reports that San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle Marvel Smith is retiring.

Smith, an Oakland, Ca. native, signed a two-year deal with the 49ers after spending the first 10 years of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who chose him in the 2nd round (38th overall) of the 2000 NFL Draft.

The former Arizona State standout started 108 of 111 games for the Steelers, going to one Pro Bowl (2004) and helping them to two Super Bowl wins (2005, 2008). Smith finished the 2008 season on injured reserve with a back injury, which reportedly is the main culprit for his rumored retirement.

Official NFL Rule Regarding Cowboys' Scoreboard

Here's the NFL's newly instituted rule regarding the scoreboard at the new Cowboys Stadium:

1. If a ball in play strikes a video board, guide wire, sky cam, or any other object, the ball will be dead immediately, and the down will be replayed at the previous spot.

2. If there is not an on-field ruling that the ball struck an object, the Replay Assistant is empowered to initiate a booth review, including if the event occurs prior to the two-minute warning. If, prior to the two-minute warning, no booth review is initiated by the Replay Assistant, a coach’s challenge is permitted under the customary procedures for such a challenge.

3. In the event the down is replayed:

(a) The game clock will be reset to the time remaining when the snap occurred.

(b) All penalties will be disregarded, except for personal fouls which will be administered prior to replaying the down.

"We will continue to address the particular circumstances in Dallas, giving full consideration to the competitive, safety and fan experience issues involved,” Commissioner Goodell said. “The Cowboys have been fully cooperative as we have addressed this subject, and we will continue to work closely with the club on a longer term resolution.”

Culpepper to Start Lions' Third Preseason Game

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz has named veteran Daunte Culpepper as the starter for the team's third preseason game this Saturday against the Indianapolis Colts.

Schwartz advised against reading too much into that, but the third preseason game is widely-known as the "final tuneup" for the regular season. So while Culpepper and first-overall pick Matthew Stafford will split time, that Culpepper is the starter can be considered an indicator that he'll also start the regular season opener, as well.

Broncos Suspend Brandon Marshall

One day after Denver's ABC affiliate showed video of Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall behaving like a petulant child during practice, the team has suspended the Pro Bowl receiver for conduct detrimental to the team.

Marshall appeared on ESPN's "NFL Live" earlier this morning to do some damage control.

"Me punting the ball was definitely frustration," Marshall said. "It was an error in judgment. There was a lot of frustration (Wednesday) coming out of a meeting."

Marshall's suspension will be for the remainder of the preseason.

As talented as Marshall is, he has been unable to avoid trouble off it. He's also expressed his desire to be traded. However, his off-field issues, combined with his attitude and what he's seeking in a long-term contract, essentially ruins his trade value.

What's unfortunate is that Marshall is a perfect fit for head coach Josh McDaniels' offensive system. Had the team managed to not mess up the Jay Cutler situation, that duo would've posted incredible numbers, likely resulting in multiple Pro Bowls for both players.

Steelers To Take Long Look at Mendenhall

Pittsburgh Steelers second-year running back Rashard Mendenhall is still stuck behind starter Willie Parker on the depth chart, but with Parker nursing a hamstring injury, Mendenhall will get an extended look during the team's third preseason game against the Buffalo Bills on Saturday night.

"We'd like to get an extended look at Rashard Mendenhall whether Willie plays or not," Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said. "... I thought he was very decisive, he ran downhill. I liked the way he finished runs. He ran violently. He's had a good preseason. We just ask that he continue to do more of the same."

Mendenhall, the Steelers' first-round pick (23rd overall) in 2008, missed most of his rookie season after fracturing his shoulder in his first NFL start in Week 4. In his 3+ games, the former Illini standout ran for 58 yards on 19 carries, caught two passes for 17 yards, and averaged 19.2 yards on six kick returns.

"I feel like I'm game ready," Mendenhall said. "I played the whole first half in the first two games. I've been out there. Every opportunity you have, you look forward to building on it. I feel good right now going into the season."

Cowboys Video Board Will Stay Where It Is

Several media outlets are reporting that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has distributed a memo to all 32 NFL teams regarding the controversial video board at the Dallas Cowboys' newly constructed stadium, which sits just 90 feet above the playing surface, making it in play during punts.

Goodell has ruled that the video board will stay where it is while the league studies the matter further, and that if a ball strikes the video board, the play will be considered dead, the clock will re-set, and they will replay the down from the previous line of scrimmage.

Also, the replay assistant assigned to that game will be able to review, at any time, whether or not the ball hit the video board. If the replay assistant does not challenge the play, the head coach will be able to throw his red challenge flag.

So after everyone made a stink about the height of the video board, the only thing that will be raised is the ire of special teams coaches who'll have to contend with an obstruction that could lead to "do-overs" with tired personnel. "Do-overs" that could lead to some big returns in the punting game, or worse, high ankle sprains and torn ACLs as players abruptly change direction when the ball bounces of Jerry Jones' big TV.

Brandon Marshall Is An Idiot

That was the headline ProFootballTalk.com gave to describe this video of disgruntled Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall from ABC's Denver affiliate, The Denver Channel.

Marshall loafs through a workout, though in his defense, that particular motion could be off-limits as Marshall is coming off hip surgery. Then again, he does kick the spontaneously kick the ball away, poking a hole in the "hip injury" defense. He also half-asses it through a receiver drill, knocking the ball down instead of catching it.

When a player is looking for a new contract, 99.9% of the time I'm going to support the cause of the player. Careers are too short for me to not support them squeezing every dime possible during their time.

But when a player behaves like this, in front of guys who are fighting tooth-and-nail to just hopefully make the practice squad, it's an embarrassment and it's offensive, and Marshall is exactly what Mike Florio says he is: An idiot.

DeMarcus Ware Plans to be "More Destructive"

Dallas Cowboys All-Pro outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware is coming off a 20.5-sack season. His goal in 2009: To be more disruptive.

"The main thing for me is takeaways," Ware said. "Takeaways for me, takeaways for the defense, because the great defenses have a lot of takeaways, and they’re giving their offense back the ball.

"I’m a pressure guy. That’s something that I always harp on. If I don’t get any pressure in the game, I feel like I didn’t play well. I can have 10 tackles, but I’ve just got to smell the quarterback."

Drafting Ware might be the greatest accomplishment of Bill Parcells' tenure with the Cowboys, as Ware is every bit the pass-rusher that Lawrence Taylor was, but without the off-field baggage.

Addressing Ware's contract should be issue #1 in the Cowboys' front office, and it should contain enough guaranteed money to raise and lower the disastrous scoreboard at Jerry World 20 times.

Edgerrin James to Complement Julius Jones

Seattle Seahawks head coach Jim Mora said today that recently signed running back Edgerrin James would serve in a "complementary role" to Julius Jones, whom Mora called the team's "workhorse" back.

Gregg Rosenthal of ProFootballTalk.com, the website that broke the news of James' signing with the Seahawks, chimes in with this:

"With T.J. Duckett now out of the mix, the short-yardage duties are up for grabs. James has been called the "tiptoe burglar" by Deion Sanders in recent years, and Jones isn't known for his deciveness or vision."

Clever of Rosenthal to use a "Tweet" by Rich Eisen to question the decision-making of the Seahawks' brass, but the "tiptoe burglar" nickname wasn't actually bestowed on Edgerrin James. Sanders used that nickname to describe Shaun Alexander.

Perhaps Google or Bing would be better research tools than Twitter.

Cardinals' Boldin Injures Hamstring

Arizona Cardinals Pro Bowl wide receiver Anquan Boldin strained his right hamstring on Tuesday and was held out of practice on Wednesday, Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports.

Boldin hasn't been ruled out of Friday night's preseason game against the Green Bay Packers, but it's unlikely that he'll play.

Boldin missed a playoff game last season with a pulled left hamstring.

Duke Preston Signs With Dallas

The Dallas Cowboys have signed free agent offensive lineman Duke Preston, Brad Biggs of the National Football Post reports.

Preston was released by the Green Bay Packers on Tuesday, where he had signed a two-year deal during the off-season after spending the first four seasons of his career with the Buffalo Bills, where he started 20 games, including 11 games last season.

Biggs adds that Preston chose Dallas over offers from Cleveland and Oakland.

Lower Back Strain for Shaun Hill

According to the team's official Twitter page, San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Singletary announced that quarterback Shaun Hill, who was named the starter on Monday, is day-to-day with a lower back strain.

Before anyone begins to speculate about whether or Alex Smith could slip in and claim Hill's job, Smith has a sprained thumb that will keep him out of Saturday's preseason game against Dallas.

Broncos Sign QB Ingle Martin

Jeff Legwold of the Denver Post reports that the Denver Broncos have signed veteran free agent quarterback Ingle Martin.

Broncos backup quarterback Chris Simms suffered a high ankle sprain against the Seattle Seahawks last Saturday night, and will miss 4-to-6 weeks. Martin worked out for the Broncos this morning and the plan, according to Legwold, is for him to see considerable playing time in the Broncos' preseason finale against the Arizona Cardinals on September 3.

Martin was a fifth-round pick by the Green Bay Packers in 2006, where he spent one season. Martin has also spent time with the Tennessee Titans (2007-08) and was most recently with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Lions Sign K Billy Cundiff

The Detroit Lions have signed veteran free agent kicker Billy Cundiff to a one-year, his agent Paul Sheehy announced via Twitter.

Cundiff, who last kicked in an NFL game in 2006 during a stint with the New Orleans Saints, is 60-for-83 (72.3%) on field goal attempts during his five-year career that began when the Dallas Cowboys signed him as an undrafted free agent from Drake. Cundiff has also spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Falcons, and Kansas City Chiefs.

Lions kicker Jason Hanson is out with a hip injury and may not be recovered in time for the regular season.

FOXSports: Jets to Name Sanchez Starting QB

FOXSports.com's Jay Glazer reports that New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan will name first-round quarterback Mark Sanchez as the team's starting quarterback for their season-opener against the Houston Texans.

Glazer reports that Ryan informed the team's quarterbacks of the decision this morning.

In two preseason games, Sanchez has completed 6-of-12 passes for 131 yards, with a touchdown and an interception, for a passer rating of 82.3, slightly better numbers than Kellen Clemens has posted this summer.

What likely swayed Ryan towards naming Sanchez the starter was that the rookie showed the composure needed from a starting quarterback while dealing with adversity against Baltimore on national television on Monday night. Sanchez's first pass was intercepted by defensive lineman Haloti Ngata and returned for a touchdown, and his second pass was nearly intercepted by Ray Lewis.

Base Salary

2009: $460,000 (unchanged)
2010: $550,000
2011: $690,000

LeVoir also has a $25,000 roster bonus this season, and $50,000 workout bonuses in 2010-11.

Packers Not Trading Wells; Release Preston

Brad Biggs of the National Football Post reports that the Green Bay Packers have informed center Scott Wells that he will be a backup to Jason Spitz, who last night was named the starter by head coach Mike McCarthy, and the Packers have released backup offensive lineman Duke Preston.

There had been speculation, fueled primarily by Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, who suggested that after not being named the starter, Wells could be traded, perhaps to the Seattle Seahawks, who lost starting center Chris Spencer for four-to-six weeks to a torn quadriceps.

However, what wasn't taken into account was that while the Seahawks have major injury issues at the tackle position, the Seahawks have two veterans (Steve Vallos, Cory Withrow) and this year's second-round pick (Max Unger) to choose from to play center until Spencer returns in late September/early October, making them unlikely to part with even a mid-round draft pick to acquire a center when they have short- and long-term options already on the roster.

Also, at $1.5 million dollars, a talented and experienced center like Wells is well-worth the money, so I'm not sure why the Packers would even want to trade him.

Jaguars Re-Sign Ernest Wilford

The Associated Press reports that the Jacksonville Jaguars have signed free agent tight end Ernest Wilford.

Wilford, 30, was a fourth-round pick (120th overall) in the 2004 NFL Draft by the Jaguars, where he played from 2004-07, starting 37 games and making 141 receptions for 1,994 yards and 14 touchdowns.

As a free agent last off-season, Wilford signed a four-year, $13 million dollar contract with the Miami Dolphins, where he made 3 receptions for 25 yards in seven games. Wilford was attempting to make the Dolphins roster as a tight end this summer, but that experiment came to an end yesterday when the club released him.

Patriots Deal Hochstein to the Broncos

Adam Schefter of ESPN.com reports that the New England Patriots have traded veteran guard Russ Hochstein to the Denver Broncos for a late-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.

Hochstein, 31, has been with the Patriots since 2002, primarily as a backup guard. He started 20 of his 91 games in a Patriots uniform, including 8 games during the Patriots' undefeated 2007 regular season.

The 6-4, 305-pounder from Nebraska entered the NFL as a fifth-round pick (151st overall) by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is the fourth former Patriots to join the Broncos this off-season, joining long-snapper Lonnie Paxton, running back LaMont Jordan, and defensive lineman Le Kevin Smith, who was traded to Denver a little over a week ago. They join fellow former Patriots tight end Daniel Graham (FA, 2007) and wide receiver Chad Jackson (FA, 2008) who arrived in town before new head coach Josh McDaniels, who was the Patriots offensive coordinator from 2006-08.

Cowboys Coach, Scout File Lawsuit

Dallas Cowboys special teams coach Joe DeCamillis and scout Rich Behm have filed a lawsuit against several companies that were involved in the construction of the Cowboys' indoor practice facility that collapsed during a thunderstorm on May 2, which left Behm paralyzed below the waist while DeCamillis suffered a broken neck.

The two men are represented by Frank Branson, who filed a lawsuit accusing the defendants of knowing that the structure was unsafe and taking steps to conceal that truth. From the Dallas Morning News report:
"The conspiracy allegations target:

• the steel-framed facility's designer and manufacturer, Canada-based Cover-All Building Systems.

• its U.S. sales and construction affiliate, Summit Structures.

• the Las Vegas consulting firm JCI. As previously reported in The Dallas Morning News, JCI helped Cover-All and Summit design reinforcements for the tent after a building-collapse expert discovered engineering problems.

The facility underwent repairs in summer 2007 that the Cowboys believed were "a temporary fix," the lawsuits say. They allege that Cover-All, Summit and JCI "were to design and install a permanent fix after the 2007 football season was over" but did not.

Instead, they "agreed to hide and conceal the practice facility's shortcomings," the suits say. on May 2, injuring DeCamillis and leaving Behm paralyzed below the waist.

The lawsuit accuses the defendants of knowing that the facility was unsafe and of taken steps to conceal that fact."
