Titans Sign 3rd Round CB Ryan Mouton
UPDATE: Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean reports the deal includes a $665,000 signing bonus.
Mouton, the 94th overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft, only played two seasons for the University of Hawaii after transferring from Binn Junior College. After serving as a backup in 2007, Mouton started 13 games last season at both safety and cornerback, and also played on offense and as a kick returner. He was named to the first-team All-WAC in 2008, and for his career, made 69 tackles and 3 interceptions.
Mouton is expected to challenge for a nickel cornerback role and could be used on returns.
Harvin Will Have to Attend 2010 Rookie Symposium
"Steve Wyche, reporting for “NFL Total Access” from Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., said Harvin wanted to return to the symposium Tuesday but that doctors told him to remain at home. Wyche said Harvin is concerned about how people will perceive his absence because of the question marks that surrounded his character entering the NFL draft in April.
Harvin had top-10 talent but dropped to the Vikings with the 22nd-overall pick in part because he reportedly tested positive for marijuana at the NFL Scouting Combine in February in Indianapolis.
This is not the first time Harvin has dealt with an illness this offseason that has kept him from an NFL-related event. Harvin missed a Vikings rookie camp in early May after becoming so ill during a layover in Atlanta that he was hospitalized. Harvin, who had been traveling from Florida, was suffering from extreme dehydration and a virus. He returned home two days after being admitted to the hospital."
Sports Illustrated to Honor Ed Thomas

Titans Agree to Terms with 4th Round LB Gerald McRath
Financial terms were not disclosed, but as with the other four Titans draft choices who have signed contracts, McRath likely received a four-year deal. The team's press release indicates it is a "multi-year deal".
McRath was chosen with the 130th overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft after starting 25 games for the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. McRath was the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year in 2007 and made 386 tackles (32.5 for loss) in his 36-game career.
Dolphins Sign 3rd Round WR Patrick Turner
Thompson reports the deal is worth $2.3 million dollars and contains a signing bonus of over $700,000. (That would actually make the deal worth $2.45M)
Turner started 24 of his 49 games at USC, finishing his career with 138 receptions, 1,727 yards and 17 touchdowns, including 10 scores during his senior season. At 6-5 and 223 pounds, Turner gives the Dolphins much-needed size at the wide receiver position.
Jay Alford Has Eye Surgery
Jenny Vrentas of the Star-Ledger caught up to Alford, who says that he had his lazy eye fixed, but that the surgery was purely cosmetic and his vision is the same it was before the procedure.
Eagles' Hobbs: "We're Loaded"
"We're loaded with talent and all we have to do is put it together."
Hobbs also discussed his relationship with Samuel, his departure from New England, and who the best WR he's had to cover during his chat.
La Canfora on UFL Contracts
JasonLaCanfora I'm hearing UFL contracts will be for 1 yr, $35,000 across the board. $15,000 max in incentives and a lil something else possible 4 top QBs
Vikings Sign 5th Round LB Jasper Brinkley
Terms were not disclosed, but Brinkley, the 150th overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft, likely signed a four-year deal worth $1.93 million dollars, with a signing bonus of ~$186,000 and escalators that could push the total value of the deal to around $4 million dollars.
Brinkley (6-2, 252) played in 30 games after transferring to the University of South Carolina. In 2006, his first season with the Gamecocks, Brinkley made 107 tackles, including 14.5 for a loss. He'd add 5 quarterback sacks while on his way towards earning first-team All-SEC honors. A knee injury cut his 2007 season short and likely led to decreased production last season, where he made 65 tackles (5 for loss) and 2.5 quarterback sacks.
Brinkley is the second of the Vikings' five draft choices to have signed contracts.
Jay Feely Wants to be President
Presumably, he meant President of the United States.
Feely got into a tete-a-tete with Deadspin.com last week over comments he made during an appearance on The Hannity Show on FOXNews, which Feely lists as one of the four programs he watches on television. Feely is also reading a book by right-wing conservative pundit Hugh Hewitt, who authored a book about Mitt Romney.
So between that, and saying that "President Obama is unwilling to defend America's greatness", you get a sense of where Feely's political leanings are.
Now, this site is, by design, non-political. I have my own political beliefs, but I'd much rather talk football.
I just wish that those I'm writing about would follow suit, regardless of where they lie on the political spectrum, as the more vocal they are about their political leanings, the more divisive a figure they could be inside their own locker room.
Arrowhead Stadium Renovations Should Be Ready For Season-Opener
"Arrowhead is a flurry of activity, trying to get ready for the Aug. 15 opening,” Rowland said.
The parts of the renovation that won't be complete for 2009 are the lower sections of the upper concourse and club-level lounge areas.
The cost of renovating Arrowhead has surpassed $500 million dollars.
Colts' Painter Hopes to Make 53-Man Roster
Since the Colts have the durable Peyton Manning at quarterback, Painter may have to outperform Sorgi, whose thrown 156 passes 15 games (0 starts) in his five-year career, just to make the 53-man roster.
"Anything can happen and in camp we'll get a real good idea," Painter told Mike Carmin of the Lafayette Journal & Courier. "I'm hoping I can make the roster."
Painter started 41 games in his Boilermaker career, throwing for 11,000 yards and 67 touchdowns. That productivity led the Colts to select the Indiana native.
"He has all the skills and ability we're looking for," Colts coach Jim Caldwell said last month. "He's also got a great mind and he has the kind of attitude that we look for at that particular position."

Dennis Green Thinks Vick Will End up in Miami
From J.J. Cooper at NFL Fanhouse:
"I have a hard time believing that Michael Vick is not going to wind up with Bill Parcells, simply because he has that creativeness that says that no matter what it takes, he's going to find a way to get Michael Vick," Green told Sirius NFL Radio. "Now, whether it means convincing the commissioner or whatever it takes, Michael Vick is probably going to wind up at Miami because of the fact that Bill Parcells is Bill Parcells."Back in February, I listed Miami as one of the few teams that would be able to accommodate Michael Vick.
RE: Jaguars Sign 6th Round TE Zach Miller (Update)
He received a signing bonus of around $111,000.
Illness Forces Percy Harvin to Leave NFL Rookie Symposium
From Judd Zulgad of the Star-Tribune:
"Harvin reported for the start of the event Sunday afternoon in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, but after notifying the medical staff he was not feeling well, they suggested he return home. Organizers of the symposium officially excused Harvin; all 256 draft picks had reported Sunday, according to those who run the symposium."Harvin also missed a mandatory post-draft mini-camp after being hospitalized during a layover in Atlanta for dehydration.
Am I the only one seeing a pattern that's beginning to develop here?
Eagles Sign 2nd Round RB LeSean McCoy
McCoy is the first second-round pick to agree to a contract and is the seventh of the Eagles' 8 draft choices to sign.
The former Pitt Panther was chosen with the 53rd overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft after rushing for 2,816 yards and 35 touchdowns over two seasons, both of ended with McCoy being named first-team All-Big East. McCoy added 65 receptions, 549 yards and a touchdown out of the backfield.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Rich Baldinger Won't Be Charged in Fatal Crash
My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mrs. Walters for their loss."Marilyn L. Walters, 61, of Grain Valley was killed Saturday afternoon when the Saturn in which she was riding was struck by a Dodge driven by Rich Baldinger at the intersection of U.S. Highway 40 and Bowlin Road in eastern Jackson County.
Velda Cook, spokeswoman for the Jackson County Prosecutor’s office, said the incident has been ruled an accident by investigators. Cook declined further comment."
Harry Douglas Is Kinda Awesome
"The one piece of advice that seems to have really resonated was offered by Falcons wide receiver Harry Douglas as part of a wide-ranging panel discussion Sunday night.Douglas told a packed ballroom audience that some of the biggest transitions from college to the pros is keeping hangers-on at a distance and being mindful of money. As an example, he tugged at the gaudy earrings in each lobe and told players that even though it looked like he was sporting major blingage he actually bought the faux jewelry at “Claire’s in the mall.”
He later confirmed that the earrings are fake diamonds, but because he plays in the NFL people think they’re authentic."
Saints Sign LS Jason Kyle, Release Kevin Houser
Houser had been the longest-tenured member of the Saints, joining the team as a seventh-round pick in the 2000 NFL Draft and handling the snapping duties for all 148 of the Saints' regular season and playoff games this decade.
Kyle, 37, spent the previous 8 seasons with the Carolina Panthers. Before that, he spent one year in San Francisco and three with the Seattle Seahawks, who chose him in the 4th round (126th overall) of the 1995 NFL Draft.
Houser was entering the final year of a five-year contract extension signed in 2005.
Details of Kyle's contract were not disclosed.
Jets Claim OT Mike Fladell Off Waivers
Fladell was waived along with tight end George Wrighster last Wednesday when the Giants signed 2009 draft picks Ramses Barden and Rhett Bomar. Within the last week, the Jets have also claimed wide receiver Mario Urrutia (Bengals) and cornerback Rashad Barksdale (Giants) off waivers.
Dolphins Receiver Victimized by Fake Twitter Account
"The con was first chronicled by Dolphins blogs that included thephinsider.com, finstache.blogspot.com and finheaven.com. Claiming he was Bess, "Lambo_Weezy" was "Tweeting" braggadocios statements — like challenging Tennessee running back Chris Johnson to a footrace — that belie the wide receiver's humble personality. "Lambo_Weezy" even conducted an online chat posing as Bess through ustream.com."
Jaguars Sign 6th Round TE Zach Miller
Miller (6-4, 236) was the 180th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft and actually played quarterback in college.
During his time at Nebraska-Omaha, Miller passed for 4,096 yards and 26 touchdowns, while rushing for 3,122 yards and a school-record 50 touchdowns during his four-year career.
Giants Sign 3rd Round TE Travis Beckum
Beckum, the 100th overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft, becomes the 6th of the Giants' 9 draft choices to agree to a contract, and the fifth to put ink to paper. The team also announced that they have waived undrafted rookie defensive end Alex Field to make room for Beckum on its 80-man roster.
The 6-3, 239-pound Beckum began his college career as a linebacker. After moving to tight end as a sophomore in 2006, he set the University of Wisconsin single-season record for catches (75) by a tight end during his junior season, while also leading the nation in receiving yards by a tight end. Injuries limited him to six games in 2008.
During his 42-game college career, the last 32 as a tight end, Beckum made 179 receptions for 2,149 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Three Names in NFL's 2009 Supplemental Drat
The players are:
Joe McMahon (OC/OG, Central Michigan), who was ruled academically-ineligible.
Corey Surrency (WR, Florida State), who played semi-pro football team in Tampa, which cost him his final year of eligibility. He had been appealing the NCAA's decision, which he lost in May.
Jeremy Jarmon (DE, Kentucky), who tested positive for a banned substance. Jarmon is an intriguing pass-rushing prospect who'll hold a Pro Day on July 9.
Should PEDs-Based Suspensions Disqualify Players From HOF Consideration
I continue to be amazed that Rodney Harrison is even mentioned in the same sentence as the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Thousands Mourn at Ed Thomas' Funeral
"I don't think of the games won, I don't think of the countless awards he got, the praise, his recognition, and he earned every bit of it," said Al Kerns, a fellow coach of Thomas' at Aplington-Parkersburg High School. "All I know is that by being near him for over 30 years, he made the people around wish to become better than we are by looking at how he lived."Former Aplington-Parkersburg players and current Green Bay Packers linebacker Aaron Kampman, Detroit Lions defensive end Jared DeVries, Denver Broncos center Casey Wiegmann, and Jacksonville Jaguars center Brad Meester served as pallbearers.

Jags Linebacker Gives Back to High School Team
The jerseys were a double blessing. Not only were the previous ones worn out, but a recent CIF ruling made the white jersey with black shoulders an illegal uniform.Williams getting a first-hand look at what Major League pitcher C.C. Sabathia donated to Vallejo high school put the idea of into Williams' head.
"They said the jerseys had to be one color," Vacaville principal and assistant football coach Ed Santopadre said. "I thought, 'Could there be a worse time to find out about this, with the economy the way it is?' But Thomas stepped up. Nobody even asked him. He just said, 'I have to do this.' The timing couldn't have been better, but that's just Thomas."
"I saw they had a new facility, an equipment shack for the baseball team. Someone said CC Sabathia had donated it," Williams recalled. "I thought that was so cool. I determined that if God ever blessed me like that, I would do something for Vaca High."
Williams was a fifth-round pick (155th overall) out of USC in 2008. He appeared in just six games, making one special teams tackle.
Steelers Sign 3rd Round G Kraig Urbik
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Chosen 79th overall, Urbik (6-5, 328) was the first of the team's three third-round picks, and becomes the eighth Steelers draft choice to sign a contract. First-round defensive end Ziggy Hood is the team's lone unsigned draft choice.
Urbik started 50 games at the University of Wisconsin, all on the right side (34 at guard, 16 at tackle) and was regarded as being one of top run-blocking guards in the 2009 NFL draft.
Supreme Court Will Hear NFL Antitrust Suit
"The court said Monday it will hear an appeal from American Needle Inc., of Buffalo Grove, Ill., that challenges an agreement the NFL struck with Reebok International Ltd. American Needle had been one of many firms that manufactured NFL headwear until the league granted an exclusive contract to Reebok in 2001."
The NFL won the case in federal appeals court in Chicago, but having the case heard by the Supreme Court could give the league a decision that would stop the antitrust lawsuits filed against them.
Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com looks at how a judgment in favor of plaintiffs would affect the exclusivity deals the NFL has with licensees like EA Sports, and how teams that could negotiate their own deal could create an economic imbalance between the large and small-market teams.
Long, Clady Should Be Interesting to Watch
"Long vs. Clady will be interesting to keep an eye on during the coming years, kind of like not too long ago when one could make a case for Seattle’s Walter Jones, Baltimore’s Jon Ogden or St. Louis’ Orlando Pace being the game’s best LT … not that the Seahawks, Ravens or Rams or their fans ever felt shortchanged at the position."As Thompson notes, Ogden, Jones, and Pace weren't chosen in the same draft, but were measured against one another for the decade-and-a-half. So while Clady and Long get top billing in the competition for the top left tackle in the game, left tackles from previous and subsequent drafts will be involved in the discussion, as well.
San Diego's Marcus McNeill (2006 draftee, 2 Pro Bowls), Cleveland's Joe Thomas (2007 draftee, 2 Pro Bowl), as well as the 8-10 other left tackles chosen in the last four drafts, could join Clady and Thomas in the long-term debate.
Brian Mitchell Says Redskins Fired Him From Radio Gig For Being Critical of Teamadio
Station CEO Brad Gilbert said the move was "100% driven by the economy", but one of the principal investors in the radio station is Redskins owner Daniel Snyder.
Leahy reports that Mitchell had a $150,000 per year salary, a figure that assuredly rocketed the eyebrows clear off the heads of other NFL players-turned-local radio analysts.
Remembering Joe Delaney
"He made the ultimate sacrifice by placing the lives of three children above regard for his own safety. By the supreme example of courage and compassion, this brilliantly gifted young man left a spiritual legacy for his fellow Americans"- President Ronald Reagan, who honored Delaney with the Presidential Citizens Medal.

PFT: Goodell Doing Right by Burress
"Even if NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell ultimately tears a new hole to go along with the various other natural and bullet-created orifices in the body of Plaxico Burress, Goodell’s decision to commence his review of whether and to what extent Burress will be disciplined for violating the personal conduct policy reflects fair and just treatment of the player."When word broke late yesterday afternoon that the NFL had informed Burress that they were proceeding with a personal conduct review, before his legal issues are resolved, is a sign that Goodell is attempting to clear a path for Burress to return in 2009.
Burress' next court date in September 23, two weeks into the NFL season. Determining his punishment (I'm thinking 2-4 games, max.) ahead of training camp will let the 31 NFL teams (I'll assume the New York Giants aren't interested) decide whether or not to pursue a contract with him.
Make no mistake: Teams (plural) are interested in Burress. There may not be as many as the five teams Drew Rosenhaus says there are, but at least three teams need, and would welcome, a player as talented as Burress onto their team.
Lions' Jansen Willing to Play Anywhere
"I was in a position there where they were checking out different people at right tackle, and I figured if I'm going to have to start looking around somewhere for a job, I want to make myself as marketable as possible," Jansen said. "You've got to play all five spots if you're going to be a backup.
"I've done it for the last couple of years, but I've never done it in a game. It'll definitely be an adjustment in a game because things are more crowded in there. You've got sideboards (guards), which is nice, but there are a lot of bodies flying around."
The Lions signed longtime center Dominic Raiola to a four-year extension earlier this week, so from their perspective, Jansen getting reps at guard and center is all about depth. But for Jansen, it's about increasing opportunities to get on the field.
"Right now, I'm just trying to get the playbook down, but I anticipate getting reps at just about ever spot on the line," Jansen said. "If I can be the right tackle, that's great. If I can be the center or left guard or right guard, I just want to be on the field. And I want to be part of a quality line."

ESPN: Jags Trade Northcutt to Detroit
Tonight, ESPN.com is citing sources in reporting that Northcutt, 31, has been traded to the Detroit Lions in exchange for third-year safety Gerald Alexander.
In nine NFL seasons, Northcutt has 364 receptions, 4,584 yards and 17 touchdowns. In two seasons in Jacksonville, he's made 88 receptions (44 in each season) for 1,146 yards and 6 touchdowns. He has three years remaining on a five-year deal he signed as a free agent in 2007.
Meanwhile Alexander, 24, is coming off a season that saw him miss 11 games due to injuries. Alexander started 16 games as a rookie in 2007, finishing the season with 81 tackles and a pair of quarterback sacks and interceptions. The former Boise State standout has two years remaining on his rookie deal.
Greg Jennings Contract Details
Here's the breakdown:
Signing bonus: $11,250,000 (guaranteed)
Base salaries
2009: $5,000,000 (fully guaranteed)
2010: $1,850,000
2011: $2,700,000
2012: $3,885,000
Jennings also has workout bonuses of $300K from 2010-12, can earn up to $400K in roster bonuses each season ($25K per game active), and each season contains a $25K bonus if he plays 12 games and the Packers make the playoffs.
Silverstein also reports that Jennings' deal contains $2.95M in escalators and incentives between 2010-12.
Mortensen: Burress Under Personal Conduct Review
The NFL has confirmed the report, conceding that while Goodell's preference is to wait until the legal process plays itself out, the adjournment of Burress' trial in New York City has prompted the NFL to look into the matter to determine whether or not a suspension is warranted.
Teams interested in signing Burress would want to know what his status is with the league before signing him to their 80-man roster. Burress' next court appearance is scheduled for September 23.
Burress' agent Drew Rosenhaus has insisted that his client is a first-time violator, and thus, would face a minimal suspension, if one at all.
Panthers Lock Up Another Fourth-Rounder
Terms were not disclosed, but like most of the NFL, the Panthers sign their picks to four-year deals.
Goodson is very fast, but had a problem staying healthy during his time at Texas A&M. In 36 games, Goodson had 1,964 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns. An exceptional receiver out of the backfield (he had 90 receptions, 860 yards and 7 touchdowns in college), Goodson's future could be that of a third-down back.
To make room for Goodson and Fiammetta on the team's 80-man roster, long-snapper Patrick McDonald and defensive tackle Babatunde Oshinowo were released.
Patriots' Seventh-Rounder Scores 37 on Wonderlic
As noted on Georgia Tech's Web site, Richard's intelligence was highlighted in him earning his bachelor's degree in three years. He then completed his master's in a year and a half, one semester early.Georgia Tech is not an easy school to get into, and it's an even harder one to succeed at academically. That Richard was able to get a master's degree in 4.5 years, and be drafted into the NFL, is an incredible feat.
Chiefs Sign 7th Round TE Jake O'Connell
O'Connell caught 46 balls in 44 career games at the Miami of Ohio, but impressed scouts with his athleticism during his Pro Day.
Financial terms were not disclosed, but O'Connell's deal will be for three seasons with a signing bonus of ~$35K.
Panthers Sign 4th Round FB Tony Fiammetta
Fiammetta was the first fullback to come off the board in the 2009 NFL Draft, with the Panthers using the 128th overall pick on the former Syracuse captain.
In 45 career games, Fiammetta only ran the ball 16 times (for 89 yards, with 58 yards coming on one run in his final college game), but he did catch 28 passes over his final two seasons for 202 yards and a touchdown.
Financial terms were not disclosed, but he likely received a signing bonus of around $437K.
Titans Sign 6th Round WR Dominique Edison
Financial terms were not disclosed, but the former Stephen F. Austin star has signed a four-year deal. He is the fourth of 11 Titans' draft choices to sign a contract, joining fellow sixth-round pick Jason McCourty (CB, Rutgers) and seventh-rounders Ryan Durand (G, Syracuse) and Nick Schommer (S, North Dakota State).
Edison capped off his college career with 67 catches, 1,106 yards and 18 touchdowns during his senior season. For his career, he had 182 receptions, 2,697 yards and 28 scores.
Jurevicius Suing the Browns
"The suit claims that the Browns and their team physicians failed to warn Jurevicius that sterile techniques were not at all times used at the Browns training facility in Berea; that therapy devices passed among multiple individuals, including Browns players, were not properly maintained and/or cleaned, if at all; and that community equipment and frequently used surfaces were not properly cleaned, if at all."Jurevicius was just one of several Browns players, including wide receiver Braylon Edwards, center LeCharles Bentley, and tight end Kellen Winslow, who developed staph infections in recent years.
The Timberlake, Ohio native expressed his regret for how his Browns career was ending when he was released back in March.
"As a Cleveland native and lifelong Browns fan, I always hoped to finish my career in brown and orange with my family and friends in the stands, and was even willing to take a steep pay cut to keep that dream alive, which is why I have such a heavy heart today." and that he will "forever cherish the three seasons that I spent here and will never forget the chills that I got whenever I stepped foot on the field on the shores of Lake Erie."
The 6-5, 230-pound receiver missed all of 2008 and remains on the open market. During his career, which began as a second-round pick (55th overall) out of Penn State by the New York Giants in 1998, he has 323 receptions, 4,119 yards and 29 touchdowns during stints with the Giants (1998-2001), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2002-04), Seattle Seahawks (2005) and, of course, Cleveland (2006-08).
Jurevicius, 34, has played on three Super Bowl teams (2000 Giants, 2002 Buccaneers, 2005 Seahawks), winning one with the Buccaneers. His career season came in 2005 when he had 55 catches, 694 yards and 10 touchdowns for the Seahawks, who expressed an interest in re-signing him, but couldn't compete with Jurevicius' desire to play for his hometown Browns.
Dan Rooney's Ambassadorship Approved by Senate
"Rooney, a North Sider who still walks to work at Heinz Field, has agreed to step down from his daily role as chairman of the Steelers, his only employer since 1955. Steelers President Art Rooney II, his son, said the team's operations won't change."
Chargers Nix Chula Vista Plans
"Chargers special counsel Mark Fabiani posted a message on the team's Web site Wednesday saying its Chula Vista efforts are on hold because of long-known complications involving a power plant on the 130-acre bayfront site under consideration. The Chargers' Qualcomm Stadium lease with the city of San Diego expires in 2020.
Chula Vista now joins National City and Oceanside as cities that the Chargers have considered for a new home – and rejected. The team is looking at Oceanside again, but at a site near an airport that could pose insurmountable problems."
Lions' Schwartz Extends Final Off-Season Workout
Before the Detroit Lions final practice, head coach Jim Schwartz warned his players that if he wasn't happy with how they were practicing, he'd extend the session.
He followed through on that threat, reports Tom Kowalski of MLive.com:
"After going through individual drills, under a baking sun and 92-degree temperatures, the Lions were about 10 plays into their first team period when Schwartz stopped practice and told them to start the team period all over again. It's enough of a slap when a coach makes a team repeat just one play, it's something else when he makes them start the entire drill over again.
Thursday's workout lasted one hour and 50 minutes, and then, after it was done, Schwartz had the team run gassers -- the only time he did so during the minicamp."
One of the greatest challenges Schwartz has is changing the culture in Detroit. By not allowing them to slack off in the final practice before training camp, it sure sounds like he's on the right path towards doing that.

Giants Sign 4th Round RB Andre Brown
Brown (6-0, 224) is a big, athletic running back come out of North Carolina State with some durability issues. In 42 career games for the Wolfpack, Brown ran for 2,403 yards and 21 touchdowns, while adding 60 receptions and 540 yards out of the backfield.
Financial terms were not disclosed, as the contract has not been officially signed yet. Because the Giants are at the 80-man roster limit, someone will need to be released to accommodate Brown's signing.
UPDATE: According to ProFootballTalk.com, Brown received a signing bonus of around $433,000, has incentives worth up to $130K in each of the four years of the deal, which also includes an escalator that increases his 2012 base salary beyond the "Right of First Refusal" figure of $1.308 million dollars.
Ramses Barden Contract Details
The deal is worth $2.48 million dollars and includes a $731,000 signing bonus, as well as a $743,000 escalator in 2012.
What this means is that if Barden triggers the escalator (easily achievable playing time incentives and the team improves in a certain category, etc...), his 2012 salary will increase from its current level ($565,000) to the "Right of First Refusal" tender level in 2012 ($1.308 million dollars).
Subtract $565,000 from $1,308,000 and you get...$743,000.
Hope that helps.
Packers Sign 5th Round OT Jamon Meredith
Terms were not disclosed.
Meredith (6-5, 309) started 38 games at three positions (LT, RT, LG) for the Gamecocks. He bounced around between left and right tackle from 2006-07 before settling in at left guard as a fifth-year senior in 2008.
Seahawks Fullback Owen Schmitt Arrested for Suspicion of Drunken Driving
Schmitt, 24, was pulled over by Black Diamond police around midnight for speeding. He was subsequently arrested for drunken driving after his blood-alcohol content was measured at .151 and .161, according to State Patrol records. The legal limit in Washington is .08.
Schmitt issued the following statement via the Seahawks' public relations department.
"I sincerely apologize to the team, the NFL, the fans and my family and friends for my actions and my poor judgment," Schmitt said. "I fully understand the seriousness of this matter, and I am disappointed in myself. I am committed to earning back the trust of everyone affected."
Texans Purge Four From Roster
Not including franchised cornerback Dunta Robinson, who has yet to sign his one-year tender, the Texans now officially have 77 players on their roster.
With five draft picks left to sign, more players will need to be purged to accommodate all the signings.
Lions Sign 7th Round TE Dan Gronkowski
After two years as a blocking tight end, Gronkowski (6-6, 255) emerged as a receiving threat in 2008 (29 catches, 287 yards, 3 touchdowns), earning All-ACC honors in the process. Despite impressing scouts with a 4.68 time in the 40 and doing 26 reps on the bench press, Gronkowski was chosen with the second-to-last pick of the 2009 NFL Draft.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Lions Sign Dominic Raiola to Four-Year Extension
Originally chosen with the 50th pick of the 2001 NFL Draft, Raiola has started 108 games for the Lions over the last seven seasons. Railoa's streak of 104 consecutive starts was snapped midway through the 2008 season.
Raiola will earn $3.4 million dollars in 2009, the final year of a five-year extension signed in 2005.
Ravens Sign 3rd Round CB Lardarius Webb
Webb (5-10, 179) was a two-time All-American at Division II Nicholls State after being dismissed from the Southern Miss program in 2007. While at Nicholls State, Webb had seven interceptions and averaged 26 yards per kick return and 16 yards per punt return. He is the first player in NCAA history to win conference player of the week honors on offense, defense, and special teams.
Citing a league source, Wilson reports that Webb received a three-year deal with a $529,500 signing bonus.
Patriots Sweep ESPN.com's All-Decade Awards
"You have to recognize championships because, ultimately, that's what we're playing for," Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said when informed of ESPN.com's selections.
Mahan Restructures Contract
"Mahan restructuring his contract helps to solidify his roster spot", the article states.
While Mahan has restructured his contract, shaving $3.935 million dollars in base salaries off the three remaining years of his deal, this actually occurred several months ago. Therefore it has not created any additional cap space over recent reports regarding the Buccaneers' available cap space.
Mahan's Pre-Restructure Base Salaries
2009: $3.175M
2010: $3.5M
2011: $3.5M
Mahan's Post-Restructure Base Salaries
2009: $1.6M
2010: $2.08M
2011: $2.56M
While there was no signing or roster bonus added to the deal, Mahan can make up some of the difference in incentives. Considering Mahan's versatility and the team's depth issues along the interior of their offensive line, he has a greater chance of earning the $6.24 million dollars in base salary he's presently owed between 2009-11 than he did of earning the full $10M+ in base salary he was owed over the final three years of the original deal he signed with Pittsburgh.
Greg Jennings' Deal Just the Beginning
In addition to having to sign two first-round picks (B.J. Raji, Clay Matthews), the following Packers are free agents in 2010:
OLB Aaron Kampman
NT Ryan Pickett
S Nick Collins
C/G Jason Spitz
G Darryn Colledge
CB/KR Will Blackmon
DL Johnny Jolly
If a new CBA is not ratified, however, Collins, Spitz, Colledge, Blackmon and Jolly would be restricted free agents as they would not have the six accrued seasons needed for unrestricted free agency.
Lions Owner Takes Responsibility For Team's Recent Failures
"Starting with Jim and on out, as far as my livelihood goes, I'm going to shoulder the responsibility for any mistakes we made. I don't mean every play or stuff like that, but if things go sour and the fans turn against us, I've got nobody to blame but me, and I'm aware of that. That's a nice challenge to have. I'm going to try to keep them happy in bad times."
Jeff Fisher Takes Some Playful Jabs at Chris Johnson
"Every Coach's Dream?" Fisher said with a smile Wednesday. "Maybe with a few exceptions — playing the bongos … and getting hurt in the playoff game.
"I'm sure they'll come up with something else," Fisher said. "Dumb and Dumber or something."
Mike Florio of PFT.com writes that Fisher's words "don't seem so playful to us" (er, him), but I disagree. Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean noted that Fisher was smiling when he took his jab. Unless you're actually there, or see video of the exchange, it's impossible to look at quotes in black & white and gauge Fisher's intentions.
Jaguars Shopping Northcutt
Northcutt is due $2.45 million dollars this season, and has base salaries of $2.95M (2010) and $3.95M (2011) remaining on a five-year deal signed in 2007. In two seasons with the Jaguars, Northcutt has 88 receptions, 1,146 yards and 6 touchdowns.
ProFootballTalk.com first reported this news item, which ESPN.com subsequently confirmed through Northcutt's agent, Jerome Stanley.
Flip This PSL
In Baltimore, though, fans who made the originally purchase 11 years ago are turning their PSLs into a tidy profit.
"Smart, 50, said he has invested about $100,000 in Ravens seat licenses and another $100,000 in Philadelphia Eagles PSLs. Even as business was down 50 percent last year in his Philadelphia-based roofing company due to the slumping economy, he said, he cleared about $40,000 from a side business he and his wife established with another couple a few years ago to manage their NFL investments.
"That's not bad for a part-time job," said Smart, who says he attends an NFL game almost every football-season weekend."

Statement from Julius Peppers
"I have signed the franchise tender and am now under a one-year contract with the Carolina Panthers. Recently, I've had positive and productive discussions with the organization. I am optimistic and focused as I look forward to the upcoming NFL season."
Bad News for Boley
This recovery time line means Boley will miss training camp and puts his availability for the team's season-opener in doubt.
It could also mean that Boley could begin the season on PUP.
Giants Sign a Pair of Draft Picks
Terms were not disclosed, but the contracts should be four-year deals.
Barden was the 85th overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft after a very productive career at Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo, where he caught 122 passes for 2,724 yards and 36 touchdowns over the last two seasons. His size (6-6, 229) make him a potential replacement for Plaxico Burress in the red zone.
Bomar was once the top high school quarterback recruit in the country and was MVP of the Holiday Bowl as a redshirt freshman at Oklahoma. After a few run-ins with the law, Bomar was dismissed by the Sooners and resurfaced at Sam Houston State, where he threw for 5,564 yards and 37 touchdowns the last two seasons.
To make room on the 80-man roster, the Giants released veteran tight end George Wrighster and offensive lineman Mike Fladell.
Aaron Kampman's Statement on Passing of Ed Thomas
“Coach Thomas was very special to me and many other young men from the Aplington-Parkersburg communities. His legacy for many will be associated with his tremendous success as a football coach. However, I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ. He lived his life trying to exemplify this faith and convey those values to those under his influence. His faith in Christ pervaded everything he did and that is why in the midst of the heartache we all feel there is comfort in knowing he is with his Savior.”
Harrison Rips Brett Favre
“Each and every offseason bringing so much attention to himself. It’s just really a disappointment to hear that time and time again,” said Harrison. “If you’ve been in the league 13, 14, 15 years or so you know if you want to play. The circus shouldn’t have to go on for three to four years. It’s just a disappointment.
“Then the media, they’re just so caught up and in love with Brett Favre. … It’s ridiculous because a lot of guys are doing good, positive things in the National Football League and those keep things keep getting overlooked.”
Anyone who took HGH to continue his career really isn't in a position to comment on aging players struggling with the decision of whether or not to continue their careers.
Brad Meester Discusses His Former Coach
“It’s really hard to see this happen,” Meester said. “My prayers go out to his wife, Jan, and his two boys, Aaron and Todd. I think as a former player and really everybody that’s been through that program, you think of him as almost a father figure. He’s one of those guys that truly cared about every player that was in that program.”
Meester is one of four Aplington-Parkersburg alumni currently playing in the NFL. That story came to light last summer after the area was hit with a deadly tornado. Thomas played a major role in helping the area pick itself up from that tragedy.
“Coach had a huge, huge role in getting that program back up and running in such a short time period,” Meester said. “It was literally a couple months after it happened…that program never missed a beat and I don’t know that anyone else could have done that. Having to rebuild his own home, I mean his own house was destroyed in the process, rebuilding everything in his own house and yet keeping that program running, nobody else could have done that, and that’s the type of guy that he was.
“He truly cared for each player. He truly cared for that program and he gave everything to it and that’s one of the things that we loved about him.”
The more I read about Coach Thomas, and the lives he touched, the sadder I become. The role high school coaches play in the lives of young athletes can't be overstated, and the world lost a great one today with the senseless taking of Ed Thomas' life.
Panthers Sign 7th Round CB Captain Munnerlyn
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Munnerlyn likely received a four-year deal.
Munnerlyn (5-9, 182) started 28 games during his career at South Carolina, earning All-SEC honors as in 2007. He is the first of the Panthers' seven draft choices to sign a contract.
The Panthers also announced that they have released undrafted rookie running back Markus Manson and cornerback Reggie Sullivan.
Peppers Signs Franchise Tender
By signing the tender, Peppers will be obligated to report to training camp and faces daily fines should he fail to report. Throughout the off-season, the Panthers have maintained that Peppers would be signed before training camp.
Former Player Charged With Murder of Ed Thomas
"Becker was arrested at a rural Parkersburg residence shortly after the shooting, an official from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation said. A handgun was used in the shooting. Becker is a former Aplington-Parkersburg player and student."A motive remains unknown.
Packers Officially Announce Jennings Signing
According to media reports, Jennings' extension will pay him $16 million dollars in 2009 (between signing bonus and base salary) and has a maximum value of $31 million dollars over the next four seasons.
Chiefs Sign Veteran Safety Mike Brown
Brown was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the second-round pick of the 2000 NFL Draft and spent his first 8 years with the Bears, who opted not to re-sign him when his contract expired in February.
Despite a penchant for making the big play, Brown's inability to stay healthy was behind the Bears' decision to not re-sign him. Over the last five seasons, Brown has never appeared in 16 games, missing nearly all of the 2004 and 2007 seasons due to injuries.
His top season came during the Bears' 13-3 season in 2001, where Brown had 67 tackles, 3 quarterbacks and 5 interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns. For his career, the 31-year old Brown has 5 quarterback sacks, 17 interceptions and four touchdowns.
Brown provides depth behind starters Jarrad Page and Bernard Pollard. Terms were not disclosed, but Brown has likely signed for the veteran minimum. ($745K)
ESPN.com: Tyree's Catch is Play of the Decade
Couldn't disagree more.
The real play of the decade, i.e. the play the 2000s will most be remembered for, was the "Tuck Rule" play from the 2001 AFC Divisional Playoffs. Had that play not happened, the Patriots don't win the Super Bowl, who the heck knows what direction the Patriots go in at quarterback (Bledsoe had signed a $100M contract earlier that year), and perhaps the closest thing to a dynasty this decade had quite possibly never would've materialized.
The "Tuck Rule" play did get mentioned as the "Most memorable officiating call", but c'mon ESPN.com, what about Super Bowl XL?
And how the hell does Rodney Harrison win "Most feared player"? Seriously, the guy missed 33 of 64 games between 2005 and 2008 and Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck told him he hit like a girl during a game in 2002. If anyone deserved the "most-feared" title for the last decade, it's Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis.
Report: Ed Thomas Has Died
"Sources tell us that coach Thomas was in the school weight room when someone walked in and opened fire on him.Such a sad, senseless tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Coach Thomas, as well as everyone in the Parkersburg, Iowa area who were undoubtedly touched by his generosity and commitment to the community during a life that was tragically cut short. He was shot several times in the head and was taken to a local hospital. Family members say Coach Thomas passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital."
UPDATE: Here's the statement, released by Thomas' family through Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa:
"The family of Ed Thomas would like the media to know that Ed passed away shortly after arriving at Covenant Medical Center."
Prominent Iowa High School Coach Shot and Wounded at School This Morning
Thomas is one of the most successful coaches in Iowa high school history, with four of his former players--Green Bay Packers linebacker Aaron Kampman, Denver Broncos center Casey Wiegmann, Detroit Lions defensive end Jared DeVries and Jacksonville Jaguars center Brad Meester--currently playing in the National Football League.
A year ago, Aplington-Parkersburg High School was devastated by a deadly tornado, which killed 7 people.
UPDATE: A suspect described as a "young individual" is in custody, according to WCFCourier.com.
Bus Cook Denies Deal With Favre
"Asked in an e-mail if there was any truth to the WCCO report, agent Bus Cook wrote one word: "Nope."Denials are nothing new to Cook, a.k.a "Baghdad Bus".
Cook did not elaborate."

"Brett is retired. He's not coming back. There's no deal in place."
Former Arizona Cardinals Wants His Name Cleared
Two years out of the NFL, and about to embark on the comeback trail via the UFL's San Francisco franchise, Ayanbadejo wants his former employer and teammates to know that he didn't use steroids, writes Bob Young of the Arizona Republic.
"The performance-enhancing-drug stigma that can go with an athlete is pretty bad," he said. "The No. 1 thing for me . . . I really believe the Cardinals thought I was on steroids. And I think my teammates did.
"I always went out of my way to eat organic. I would bring my own food on the road and to practice, and this made me look like a fraud."I just want them to know that I told them the truth and that I'm an honest person."
Ayanbadejo reached a financial settlement with ALR Industries after filing a lawsuit against the company claiming that they didn't properly label a product called "Max LMG", which caused his failed test, and now he's looking to continue his football career in the UFL.
"I'm a positive thinker," Ayanbadejo said. "I didn't envision my NFL career ending on this note, but I believe I have a lot left in the tank. I'm going to play for Denny (Green, his former head coach in Arizona) and I hope to show that I still have my abilities."
Chiefs to Retire Derrick Thomas' #58
"He will become the 10th player in Chiefs history to have his jersey number retired, following kicker Jan Stenerud (3), quarterback Len Dawson (16), cornerback Emmitt Thomas (18), running backs Abner Haynes (28), Stone Johnson (33) and Mack Lee Hill (36), linebackers Willie Lanier (63) and Bobby Bell (78) and defensive tackle Buck Buchanan (86)."
As a Seahawks fan, I saw way too much of this from Thomas.

Devin Hester Defends Jay Cutler
"If you haven't been around a person like Cutler, how could you say something like that?" Hester said to the Chicago Tribune's Fred Mitchell.
"Can't judge a book by its cover," Hester said. "If you haven't sat down and talked to him, how could you say something like that? He's calm in the huddle. He makes us laugh and he jokes around before the ball is snapped. That's the kind of quarterback who is relaxed and says, 'Let's play ball.'"
For what seems like the 1,000th time, folks: Yes, Cutler forced a trade out of Denver after, and only after, the team tried to replace him with a quarterback who is owed nearly $15 million in base salary in 2009 and with whom the team's new head coach was more familiar.
Had the Broncos acquired said quarterback, they would've traded Cutler. Somehow, the powers that be in Denver allowed this to leak out and Cutler found out about it through the media. How can a quarterback, who had been spending his month off after the Pro Bowl to learn the team's new offense, effectively lead a team when the new regime tried to replace him?
So while questioning Cutler's leadership is the thing to do, I'd also like to point out that 3 teams have allowed 400 points in each of the last two seasons: Denver, Detroit, and St. Louis.
Detroit went 7-25.
St. Louis went 5-27.
Denver went 15-17.
What is the one thing that those Broncos teams had that the Lions and Rams lacked? A Pro Bowl-caliber quarterback.
Chiefs Sign 5th Round OT Colin Brown
Brown, originally a walk-on, started at right tackle for his final years at Missouri, earning All-Big 12 honorable mention honors in both years.
Caplan reports Brown received a signing bonus of around $154,000, making the total deal worth $1.3 million dollars. His signing bonus is a 3.22% increase over what the player in the same spot last year signed for.

Jennings Is Not the Second Highest-Paid Receiver in NFL
If Jennings plays at a Pro Bowl level, and believe it or not he hasn't been to one yet, the deal could be worth $30 million dollars over those four years. That equates to a maximum per year average of $7.5 million dollars per season, which is quite a ways away from making Jennings the second highest-paid receiver, as originally reported by a Milwaukee television station.
Arizona's Larry Fitzgerald's four-year extension last year is worth $10 million annually, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Antonio Bryant has a one-year, $9.844 million dollar contract as the team's franchise player.
Additionally, Calvin Johnson ($9.25M), Randy Moss and Roy Williams ($9M) and Seattle's T.J. Houshmandzadeh ($8M) each have higher per year averages than the maximum value of Jennings' deal.
Favre Agrees to Deal With Vikings
That's right, folks. "Retired" quarterback Brett Favre is retired no more, as WCCO's Mark Rosen is reporting that Favre has agreed to an incentive-laden deal with the Minnesota Vikings.
For his part, Favre's agent James "Bus" Cook continues to deny that a deal is in place.
Dolphins Deny Davis Was Arrested
Dolphins spokesman Harvey Greene e-mailed ProFootballTalk.com to let them know that was in South Florida participating in the team's OTAs on the same day the arrest in question was made.
“I spoke to Vontae, and he told me he was in South Florida all day on June 9, the day the incident supposedly occurred,” Greene wrote. “In addition, we had a scheduled OTA that morning that Vontae attended, and he also attended a rookie life-skill session that afternoon.
“Finally, we also know he was in the building at 7:00 a.m. the next morning. So, in addition to Vontae’s own word that he wasn’t in Champaign, it’s almost physically impossible for him to have been there at the time the incident allegedly took place."
Given the circumstances laid out by the team, who despite selecting Davis in the first round and being a month away from guaranteeing him $7-10 million dollars have no reason to engage in a cover-up.
Right now, it's pretty obvious that Davis is the victim of identity theft.
Packers, Jennings Reach New Deal
Larry Fitzgerald of the Arizona Cardinals is currently the game's highest-paid receiver, with an annual average of $10 million per year. Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Antonio Bryant is due to make $9.844 million dollars under the franchise tag this season, meaning Jennings' extension, if it does indeed make him the second highest-paid receiver, would average between $9.844001 and $9.999999 million dollars per season.
The deal has not been officially announced, but he team did announce that wide receiver Lorne Sam has been released.
Chiefs Officially Announce Succop Signing
Succop's agent had previously confirmed that the deal was agreed to, adding that the deal was worth $1.2 million dollars over three years. Succop's signing bonus is likely in the $25,000 range.
Titans Sign Pair of Draft Picks
Signed today are sixth-round cornerback Jason McCourty (Rutgers) and seventh-round guard Ryan Durand (Syracuse).
McCourty was chosen with the 203rd overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft after starting for three years in the Scarlett Knights secondary.
Durand was a three-year starter at right guard for the 'Cuse, and was named to the second-team All-Big East following his senior season. The Leominster, Mass. native (Disclosure: I live two towns over) was chosen with the 239th overall pick.
McCourty and Durand join seventh-round safety Nick Schommer as the Titans' draft choices who have signed contracts. Tennessee still has 8 draft picks to sign.
Dolphins' First-Round CB Vontae Davis Arrested June 9
The biggest question mark about Davis coming out of college was his maturity level, and whether his lack of it would hinder his ability to maximize a talent level described as "jaw-dropping" at the professional level.
An arrest before he signs his first NFL contract is not a good way to start.
ESPN's All-Decade Offensive Team
Here's a big shock: I don't disagree with a single selection.
Cowboys Offensive Linemen Sign Record Deal
"Free Reign is a band with massive potential," Riot owner John Howarth said in a news release Tuesday. "There has been an enormous buzz surrounding them since they appeared on the scene a few months ago. Free Reign has already been flooded with endorsements. Their marketing potential is limitless. These guys are already huge sports stars, but they have shown they have the talent to diversify."
Guitarist Justin Chapman, who doesn't play football, rounds out the group.
Titans Sign Equipment Manager's Nightmare
Lekkerker has spent time with the San Diego Chargers, Miami Dolphins, and most recently, the Dallas Cowboys. He has appeared in 26 games during his career with 2 starts, both coming with the Dolphins during their 1-15 season in 2007.
Buccaneers Sign Pair of Draft Picks
Moore, the 117th overall pick, started 24 games at USC, including all 13 games last season at right defensive end. During his career with the Trojans, Moore made 65 tackles (31 solo), had 7 quarterback sacks and a pair of interceptions. Biggers, the 217th overall pick, was also a two-year starter, intercepting 7 passes and making 136 tackles during his collegiate career.
With Moore and Biggers signed, the Buccaneers now have 4 of their 6 draft choices under contract. Still unsigned are first-round quarterback Josh Freeman and third-round defensive tackle Roy Miller.
The Buccaneers' 80-man roster is presently at full capacity, meaning two players will need to be released for them to sign their remaining draft picks.
Steelers Sign Starks to Long-Term Deal
Starks was guaranteed to earn $8.451 million dollars in 2009, and ESPN.com's John Clayton reports Starks' deal is worth $26.3 million, including $10 million guaranteed.
Originally chosen by the Steelers in the third round (75th overall) of the 2004 NFL Draft out of Florida, Starks has made 45 starts during his five-year career. Primarily a right tackle early in his career, he made 15 starts at left tackle between 2007-08, including during the team's Super Bowl ran in January.
Starks, 27, is projected to play left tackle in 2009.
Fernando Bryant's Retirement Announcement is Tweeted For Him
RosenhausSports Congrats to Fernando Bryant on a great career in the NFL. Fernando has decided to retire after winning a championship with the Steelers. There's no official announcement on the team's official site, and the team re-signed Bryant for one-year back in March.
Bryant spent 10 seasons in the NFL with three teams. Drafted in the 1st round (26th overall) by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 1999, Bryant started 71 of 72 games over five seasons before signing with the Detroit Lions before the 2004 season. Injuries limited Bryant to just 38 games over four seasons in the Motor City. Bryant spent most of 2008 on the Steelers' inactive list, appearing in just two games during the Steelers' Super Bowl run.
Cardinals Add to Scouting Department
Chris Culmer joins the Cardinals after nine years with the Seattle Seahawks, including the last five as the team's pro personnel assistant. He'll cover the western region of the country.
Luke Palko has spent the last two seasons interning with the Pittsburgh Steelers and will evaluate players in the southeast and central parts of the country. His brother Tyler plays quarterback for the Cardinals.
Saints' Colston Feels 100%
With the Saints' off-season workouts finished, Colston feels good headed into 2009.
"I feel great," Colton said. "It's probably the first offseason that I've gone away (from organized team activities) feeling 100 percent.
"I expect to come out and have a bounce-back season, hopefully end up in the Pro Bowl and in the Super Bowl."
A healthy Colston should bolster an already potent Saints' offense.
Packers, Jennings Close to a Deal
"We've been working on some things. We're coming pretty close, as far as my understanding is, to some type of a deal," Jennings said. "But when I say close, we could still be far . . . if that makes sense. But I think we're coming close. You just never know how long 'close' can take to actually closing the deal."
Jennings, 25, is in the final year of his rookie contract and has a $535,000 base salary for 2009. In 43 games, including 39 starts, in his three seasons in the NFL, Jennings has 178 receptions, 2,844 yards and 24 touchdowns.
Last season, Jennings had 80 catches, 1,292 yards and 9 touchdowns and emerged as one of the NFL's most dynamic receivers after the catch. Despite not having a Pro Bowl on his resume, Jennings could receive as much as $8 million dollars per year as part of a contract extension.
Tailgating in Two NFL Cities Getting More Expensive, Restrictive
The increases in Chicago are to cover "the cost of security, portable toilet facility rental, shuttle buses, cleaning and parking taxes,'' said Mary Kay Marquisos, spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Pier & Exposition Authority.
While the restrictions in the Redskins parking lot may not seem like a big deal, fans aren't happy about it.
"It's ridiculous," said Ted Abela, who arrives at the stadium around 5:30 a.m. and hosts dozens of tailgaters a few yards from the stadium entrance. "People that arrive there first and get there early are being reprimanded and moved to the back of the parking lot. And some guy that's not even a fan, that gets there 30 minutes before the game, gets to park right in the front of the lot? It's absurd. We pay [hundreds of dollars] to park at basically eight games, and we can't choose our own spot, we can't park by our friends?"
Tailgating is without a doubt a big part of the game experience, but I do applaud the Redskins for taking steps to make exiting the parking lots after the game a bit easier on fans. If it's taking an hour because of the glut of party buses and RVs, then putting them at the rear of the lots makes sense.
Alge Crumpler's Coaching Career Has Begun
"Crump is like a coach,'' said Cook. "Crump has been around the league a long time and he just knows — he has a lot of wisdom to share. Every time I come off the field he'll tell me little things, tell me things I need to correct, which is very helpful, especially in the meeting rooms and when we're watching film.
"It's just great to have someone like that around, a big savvy guy who knows a lot and can teach you a lot. I learn something from him every day.''
Estefans Purchasing Stake in Dolphins
Their investment will be announced on Thursday at Land Shark Stadium and the Estefans will be adding some songs to play on Sundays as the team seeks to enhance the game-day experience for its fans.
Bruschi Undecided on Future
“I have to give them everything I have this year and only think about what’s next. I’m going to prepare myself for this season, only think about this season, and when the season is over, which is a long ways away, then you think about delving into those decisions.’’Bruschi turned 36 less than two weeks ago and 2009 will be the final year of his contract. He's spent his entire 13-year career with the Patriots, playing in four Super Bowls, making over 1,100 tackles (unofficially), 30.5 quarterback sacks, 12 interceptions and earning two trips to the Pro Bowl (2004, 2005).

ESPN's All-Decade Defensive Team
To fill the void, ESPN.com is spending the week by naming their All-Decade teams (offense, defense, special teams), as well as the best moments, teams, coaches, MVP, etc...
Today: It's the All-Decade Defensive Team
I won't say much about their team, other than I'm kind of surprised that Ty Law went unmentioned. 32 interceptions, four Pro Bowls, and 3 Super Bowl rings this decade ought to have at least warranted a name-drop.
HOW DAY-UH THEY DISRESPECT ONE OF THE BEST FACKIN' CAWNUHS IN THE LEAGUE!?!?!?!
