The NFL has announced that the Week 15 Carolina Panthers-Minnesota Vikings game originally scheduled to be a nationally-television game, shown by NBC with an 8:20pm ET start time on December 20, will remain as a nationally-televised game, shown by NBC with an 8:20pm ET start time on December 20.
NBC has stuck with this game, despite the Panthers' 5-7 record and the Vikings' potentially coming off an NFC North-clinching win at home this upcoming Sunday, primarily for two reasons:
1. Brett Favre usually equals ratings,
2. CBS and FOX protected, as is their contractual right, two of the marquee matchups from that Sunday. CBS locked up the Cincinnati-San Diego game, and FOX protected the right to show the Green Bay-Pittsburgh game, which has moved from a 1pm to 4:15pm ET start time.
