Steven Marcus of Newsday reports that Hofstra University is canceling its football program due to financial reasons.
Notable Hofstra football alumni include New Orleans Saints wide receiver Marques Colston, Pittsburgh Steelers right tackle Willie Colon, Dallas Cowboys defensive end Stephen Bowen, New England Patriots cornerback Kyle Arrington, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris. One of the football programs most notable alumni is former New York Jets wide receiver Wayne Chrebet.
The Flying Dutchmen finished 5-6 this season, winning it's season-finale 52-38 over the University of Massachusetts.
