ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Cleveland Browns owner Randy Lerner wants his franchise run like the Miami Dolphins, with one head honcho in charge of the general manager and head coach, and his top choice to fill that role is former Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren.
Holmgren handled the general manager duties in Seattle from 1999-2003, and hasn't hid his desire to get back into an NFL front office.
The question now appears to be would he want to do that in Cleveland?
Holmgren and his wife Kathy just built their dream home in the Bay Area, and have a second home in Arizona. Holmgren's daughters live in either the Seattle area or in Salt Lake City, Utah, so moving across the country for what would be a full-time assignment.
Current Seahawks general manager Tim Ruskell is in the final year of his contract, and Holmgren's ideal job would be to return to that team's front office and work for Paul Allen again. Holmgren still has an office at the team's Renton, Washington headquarters.
Another attractive job for Holmgren would be a role in the San Francisco 49ers' front office. Holmgren was born and raised in the Bay Area and got his start in the NFL as the team's quarterbacks coach on Bill Walsh's coaching staff.
