Bears to Sign CB Rod Hood

Veteran cornerback Rod Hood's latest foray into the NFL's free agent market was brief, with Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune reporting that Hood will sign a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears, perhaps as early as Tuesday.

McClure notes that after being released by the Arizona Cardinals, after two years on a five-year, $15M deal signed in 2007, Hood paid a free agent visit to the Bears in May.

During his six-year NFL career, which began as an undrafted free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2004, the former Auburn Tiger has started 43 of 87 games, totaling 218 tackles (200 solo), 1 quarterback sack and has intercepted 11 passes, including a career-high of 5 in 2007, two of which he returned for touchdowns.

The 5-11, 198-pound cornerback shouldn't be expected to start, but he provides depth to a secondary that has been beset by injuries this summer.
