Quasi-reputable website "TheDirty.com" claims to be close friends of Javon Walker, and they spoke to Walker earlier this evening.
This is what Walker had to say:
“I was just back at my room and at about 5:30 in the morning, I got a knock at the door, I opened it and 3 guys with guns were there, they cracked me in the head a few times knocking me unconcious. They then robbed me of everything I had- my watch- money- everything! Somehow they got me to the car and dropped me off in the street. That’s what happened.”
TheDirty.com also refutes the Internet rumor that former boxer Floyd Mayweather was involved in the attack, and they go to great lengths to say that Walker is a generous man who is "focussed (sic) and dedicated to his sport".
I won't get into whether or not Walker is "focussed" on his sport. This incident happened on Walker's free time, during one of the few points in the NFL calender year that players have time to themselves.
However, Walker, perhaps more so than any professional athlete alive today, should know that athletes are often targeted by thugs and criminals. (We're all painfully familiar with how Darrent Williams died in Walker's arms, right?) And when you're spraying champagne in a Las Vegas nightclub in the early morning hours, and wearing flashy bling, you're potentially putting yourself in a position where someone might decide to challenge you.
Unlike some other football sites, I'm not going to claim that all jokes about Walker are "fair game" because he offered a fairly weak and likely fictitious account of what happened yesterday morning. The bottom-line here, and something everyone should remember, is that Walker is the victim of a violent crime and, as of this moment, his assailants are at-large.
