New York Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw is in jail because of an incident that occurred prior to him joining the team.
While matriculating at the University of Virginia and then Marshall University, Bradshaw was arrested for underage alcohol possession and resisting arrest in 2004, and in 2006, was arrested and charged with petty larceny.
Mike Garafolo of the Star-Ledger reports that Giants' GM Jerry Reese has referred to Bradshaw as a player he'd keep on a "short leash". Bradshaw's current incarceration isn't related to a new incident, however, any time a player is behind bars places his future status with the team in jeopardy.
The Giants have release the following statement:
"We are aware of the situation and have been in contact with Ahamd's legal representative. This situation is not the result of any recent incident. It stems from an issue that occurred prior to Ahmad being drafted by the Giants. Beyond that, we have no further comment."
