Dolphins' Taylor to Ask for Trade

According to Armando Salguero, Miami Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor will formally request a trade today at an 11:30AM press conference.

Salguero writes that Taylor only plans on playing football for one more season, and he wants to do that for a team that can contend for a Super Bowl, something the Miami Dolphins are not expected to do.

Possible destinations for Taylor include San Diego, Jacksonville, Tennessee, Cleveland and Washington. The defending AFC Champion New England Patriots are another possibility, but I doubt Bill Parcells would want to trade Taylor to a division rival he'll see twice in the fall.

NFL News and Notes

Rick Gosselin of the Dallas Morning News writes that if you find the quarterbacks, you'll find the legitimate Super Bowl contenders.

New York Giants running back Derrick Ward was placed on IR before the Giants playoff run, and skipped the Super Bowl, but did attend the team's ring ceremony this week.

Josh Barnett of the Philadelphia Daily News "Eagletarian" blog breaks down what the Philadelphia Eagles' front office shuffle means.

Green Bay Packers guard Allen Barbre has added 16 pounds of muscle this off-season and has a good chance of beating out incumbent Daryn Colledge for the team's starting left guard job.

Minnesota Vikings left tackle Bryant McKinnie reportedly met with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Friday.

Detroit Lions defensive tackle Shaun Cody will be competing with Langston Moore for a roster spot.

Chicago Bears quarterback Rex Grossman says he has a chip on his shoulder. (That explains the ducks he tends to throw) It's too early to predict who will win the "Great Quarterback Derby of 2008". ("Great" is a bit of a stretch.) In Bears camp, only Roberto Garza and Olin Kreutz are the only offensive linemen in the same spot as where they ended 2007.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Carnell Williams' rehad is "way ahead of schedule", according to head coach Jon Gruden.

New Orleans Saints backup quarterback Mark Brunell feels comfortable with the Saints offense. Jimmy Smith of the Times-Picayune writes that Saints second-year wide receiver Robert Meachem will battle with Devery Henderson and Adrian Arrington for a roster spot, but I have to disagree. If the Saints are only going to keep one of them, it'll be Meachem. They'll likely keep two, though. The Saints need defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis to contribute in his rookie year.

Scott Ostler of the San Francisco Chronicle writes that the best way for the San Francisco 49ers to get a new stadium is to "cast some magic stadium beans and see what sprouts".

New England Patriots safety Rodney Harrison isn't going to let "The Catch" haunt him.

New York Jets head coach Eric Mangini is just three months away from the most important coaching season of his career.

For the Cleveland Browns, anything short of a playoff berth would be a disappointment, so says Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer.

Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Dhani Jones has been filming a show for the Travel Channel called "Dhani Tackles the Globe".

The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed wide receiver Craphonso Thorpe to a one-year deal.

Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean expects the AFC South to be competitive again this season.

Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak says his team won't celebrate until they make the playoffs.

Denver Broncos running back Selvin Young will open camp as the starter, but there will be plenty of competition for his job.

Oakland Raiders first-round pick Darren McFadden doesn't want to miss a day of training camp, and his agent is expected to meet with the Raiders' contract negotiator next week.
