Jay Cutler Diagnosed With Type 1 Diabetes

Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler has been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Cutler will be insulin dependent, but the the Broncos are stressing that this is treatable.

Former Broncos center Jay Leeuwenberg played 9 years in the NFL with Type 1 diabetes and has some advice for the young Broncos star.

"Jay has to understand there is absolutely nothing he could have done to have prevented this," Leeuwenburg said. "The first thing you get asked is: 'Goodness, was he eating too many sweets? Is there something he was doing that caused this?' Absolutely not. This is a predetermined genetic condition."

Cutler, who has been taking insulin and participating in the team's off-season workout program, may address the media about this today.
