Texans Acquire Schaub

Adam Schefter of NFL.com is reporting that the Houston Texans have acquired QB Matt Schaub from the Atlanta Falcons. The compensation is reportedly a 2nd round pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, but other compensation may be involved.

This trade sends two clear messages:

1. The Houston Texans aren't sold on the David Carr Era.

2. The Atlanta Falcons are sold on Michael Vick.

So the Houston Texans aren't convinced that David Carr can take them to the post-season. Last season, Carr completed 68.3% of his passes, but threw more INTs (12) than TDs (11). Overall, Carr finished with his second-highest passer rating (82.1) than his 5-year career. That mark was good enough to place Carr 15th in the NFL in that category.

At the same time, the Falcons are backing Michael Vick and his 75.7 QB rating. Vick's running ability does make him more valuable, but the fact that he hasn't developed into a more polished passer, despite being given a much better supporting cast than other QBs (like David Carr, for example) has to be a concern of new head coach Bobby Petrino.

Before last season, Atlanta acquired former Broncos 1st round pick Ashley Lelie, which gave the Falcons a trio of former 1st round picks at the WR position (Michael Jenkins, Roddy White), a Pro Bowl-caliber TE (Alge Crumpler) and the NFL's top rushing attack.

Vick still stumbled, on and off the field.
