Ravens Acquire McGahee from Bills

In the first 36 hours of free agency, Buffalo signed guards Jason Whittle and Derrick Dockery and tackle Langston Walker to improve the offensive line. Buffalo's top running back, Willis McGahee, was coming off a career-low 990 yards rushing in 14 games and improving the offensive line was thought to be a move that would increase the production of the offense's top player.

So naturally I'm a bit perplexed on why Buffalo has now opted to deal McGahee to the Baltimore Ravens for a trio of picks (3rd and 7th round picks this year, 3rd round in 2008).

McGahee may be entering the final year of his rookie contract, and certainly would be in line for a huge raise in 2008, but the Bills have ample cap room to absorb such a deal. When healthy, and provided with good blockers in front of him, McGahee is one of the better running backs in the NFL. Buffalo has now let their best player on defense (Nate Clements) and offense (McGahee) leave town this off-season.

It's worth noting that Buffalo's general manager, Marv Levy, turns 82 in August.
