Denver has acquired CB Dre Bly from the Detroit Lions for RB Tatum Bell and OT George Foster.
This is a solid move for the Broncos, and a slightly curious move by the Lions. After the tragic death of Darrent Williams, the Broncos were in need of a cornerback to pair with All-Pro Champ Bailey. Bly is a veteran, a two-time Pro Bowler with Super Bowl experience. The addition of Bly gives the Broncos one of the best CB tandems in the NFL.
For Detroit, adding Tatum Bell makes sense. RB Kevin Jones is likely to miss a significant portion of 2007 and Bell gives them the starting caliber running back they need. The Lions offensive line was horrendous in 2006, and a guy like Foster could help immediately.
But with the Lions holding the 2nd pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, and two of the top 5 prospects available are LT Joe Thomas (Wisconsin) and RB Adrian Peterson (Oklahoma), couldn't the Lions have addressed those needs then?
Oh wait, Matt Millen was involved. Now it makes sense.
