As if giving Nate Clements the richest contract for a defensive player in NFL history, the San Francisco 49ers have added to their secondary by signing former Philadelphia Eagles safety Michael Lewis.
In other news:
Both John Tomase (Boston Herald) and Mike Reiss (Boston Globe) are reporting that the New England Patriots will host DE/LB Adalius Thomas (Ravens) on Saturday, and one rival executive has told Tomase that it's a "done deal". Thomas should fetch megabucks, and the Patriots are not hesitant to give big money contracts to players like Thomas. A few years ago, they dug deep to pry Roosevelt Colvin away from the Chicago Bears, and aside from one injury-plagued season, that free agent signing has worked out well for the Patriots.
Adam Schefter reported tonight on the NFL Network that the Patriots have had running back Sammy Morris (Dolphins) in for a visit, and also played host to tight end Kyle Brady.
Mike Sando of the Tacoma News Tribune is reporting that free agent safety Ken Hamlin (Seahawks) is scheduled to visit with the New Orleans Saints on Saturday. Hamlin resides in nearby Houston, Texas in the off-season.
