According to various Internet reports, the Seattle Seahawks have acquired WR Deion Branch from the New England Patriots for a 1st round pick in 2007.
The addition of Branch potentially gives Seattle the deepest corps of wide receivers in the NFL. However, there are lingering concerns about Darrell Jackson's long-term health (two knee surgeries in the last 12 months) and Bobby Engram's age (33), and adding Deion Branch improves the team's depth should anything happen to either of those two players.
Last year, the Seahawks lost Engram (4 games) and Jackson (10 games) for much of the season, and up until the acquisition of Branch, Seattle did not have the depth at the position to protect themselves should it happen once again.
With ample cap room, and the window of opportunity to win a Super Bowl clearly open for them right now, credit Tim Ruskell for making this deal that improves the team in the short and long-term.
